Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson won the Premier League Manager of the Year Award but should it have gone to O’Neill, Moyes or Redknapp?

Sir Alex Picks Up More Silverware!Sir Alex Ferguson won the League Manager’s Association Manager of the Year award this season which meant various other contenders were overlooked. Fair enough, Fergie’s team won the title but they were already reigning champions and he spent millions on improving an already excellent squad so perhaps manager’s who drastically improved their sides were more deserving.

Martin O’Neill has transformed Villa into a superb attacking force that narrowly missed out on European football after finishing 6th this season. This is an improvement of 5 positions and 10 points from last season. He achieved all this despite having the smallest squad in the Premier League which meant a number of his players playing in almost every match. O’Neill has also creating a side full of attacking threat as only United and Arsenal scored more goals than his team’s 71 goals. Did his work with the Villans merit the award?

David Moyes led his team to 5th place and Uefa Cup football though for much of the season his Everton side looked destined for Champions League football. Compared to the big 4 he has spent very little in the transfer market and has turned the Toffees into a side that is hard to beat. Only a disappointing end to the season saw his team leapfrogged by local rivals Liverpool but he is improving the club’s fortunes year on year and surely was a contender for the award.

Harry Redknapp has taken Portsmouth to the FA Cup final as well as their highest top flight finish in 53 years (8th). In the last couple of seasons he has transformed Pompey from a struggling side into one of the best teams in the division. He has done his usual wheeling and dealing but nearly all his signings have made a positive affect of the team. After reaching the Cup final his team have struggled for results but this is the club’s first final since 1939 so completely understandable. Does Harry deserve the honour of being named manager of the year?

In light of Fergie’s award, I would like to hear your comments on who in your eyes deserved the award the most.

  1. Ben the Toffee Says:

David Moyes deserves the award for Everton’s exploits this season, we have been superb but unfortunately ran out of steam at final stretch due to the small squad we have compared to the money hoarding so called big 4!

  2. Red Rach Says:

You know what Ben, i completely agree with you. I’m a Liverpool fan and was really made up that Everton got 5th - thoroughly deserved. Fergie lives in complete luxury compared to Moyes and it takes a top class manager to be able to buy quality on such a restrictive budget. David Moyes has my vote all the way

  3. Darren Cowzer Says:

    Moyes by a Mile !

  4. Keith Says:

I’m glad to see many people are voting Moyes as he always seems to get overlooked especially compared to a manager from the SKY 4 and im sick and tired of it compared to most teams in the premiership Moyes has spent only a fraction after you take the fees for people comming in to the people going out and i think the amount that comes to to where he has got us is nothing short of amazing now i would like to see fergie or rafa actually do the same with a buget like that it wouldnt be done because there so used to spending big
