Premier 10 Minute by Minute Review - 11 May

Manchester United - Premiership Champions for the 10th time but did anyone win the Premier 10 title?Congratulations to Manchester United who lifted their 10th Premier League trophy on Sunday courtesy of goals from that boy Ronaldo and Red Devil’s Veteran Ryan Giggs. And congratulations to Fulham as well who probably feel like they’ve won the league following their perfect rendition of The Great Escape. But hearts go out to Reading and Birmingham who, despite scoring 8 goals between them, still found themselves relegated.

It was great having so much undecided on the final day of the season. Between the title, relegation and not forgetting the fifth place race, there were so many games that still carried meaning.

It only seems fitting to start with the newly crowned Champions. Was it ever really in doubt? With such a hefty goal difference advantage, only a slip up - versus a team they have never dropped a single point against - would mean an end to their 10th title plans. With this in mind, it’s a wonder why only 86% back the win!!

What is surprising is that more Premier 10 players backed Chelsea to win than Manchester United (93% compared to the 86% for Man U) and this is clearly why no one finished the season with the Premier 10 jackpot. Only 5% of Premier 10 players predicted the draw.

And if that one didn’t fool you, there’s a strong possibility that the Portsmouth v Fulham one did. Fulham’s fight for survival had, prior to this game, been extraordinary but you couldn’t help question how much was left in the Cottagers tank. Many Premier 10 players did wondered exactly that. 44% of the pool predicted a Portsmouth home win while another 28% went for the draw. Only 28% of players believed Fulham’s could pull off the prefect rendition of the Great Escape!

The remaining results went pretty much to form. Reading and Birmingham both produced excellent wins (as the majority of players predicted). However, these endeavours were all in vain when Danny Murphy’s 76 minute goal filled the Pompey net.

Everton kept hold of the fifth place - and rightly so methinks - after a convincing 3-1 home win against Newcastle. Just 12% thought Everton might let fifth place slip out of their grasp, plumping for an away win to Newcastle; 59% opted for a home win.

Aston Villa did surprise a few though. The majority (39% of players) did expect the Villans to make a decent challenge for fifth and win their game against the Hammers. Instead the 30% who predicted the draw left happy.

Liverpool and Arsenal did what was expected and finished their cupless season’s off with a win. As did the Middlesbrough who tackled Manchester City although I’m not sure anyone expected that mammoth scoreline!

It’s been an excellent year of Premier 10. We’ve seen some mega jackpots won - an £18k, a £15k and £14k amongst the highest - as well as thousands of winners at the games other prize levels.

Make sure you play both our Premier 10 Euro 2008 specials. If you do, not only could you scoop the Premier 10 jackpot (and because no one won this week’s jackpot, the first Euro Premier 10 will be a rollover) but you’ll also be entered into our free prize draw to win match tickets for next season. Good luck to all.
