Who Does David Moyes Need to Sign for Everton to Break into the Big Four?

David Moyes has Urged the Club to back his Ambition! The Toffees enjoyed a superb campaign which ended in European qualification via the Uefa Cup but could so easily have ended with them in next season’s Champions League. If not for some diabolical refereeing decisions, injuries to key men and a general lack of depth in the Everton squad the Toffees may well have replaced Liverpool in Europe’s Premier cup competiton. But which areas does David Moyes need to strengthen to finally break the big four’s Premier League monopoly?

Everton are stronger defensively than any team outside the top 4 after conceding just 33 goals. That’s only 2 goals more than 3rd placed Arsenal who spend much of their games in possession of the ball and on the attack. However, the Toffees cannot compete with the Champions League 4 when it comes to scoring goals. Moyes team scored 55 goals this season which is the 7th highest amount in the Premier League. Though, that’s 25 goals less than United, 10 less than Chelsea, 19 goals less than Arsenal, 12 less than Liverpool, 16 less than Villa and 11 behind Spurs. Therefore, Moyes will aim to boost both the squad’s firepower and creativity not just in the striking positions but also from midfield.

He has the backbone of a consistent side, a good goalkeeper in Tim Howard as well as excellent defenders in Joleon Lescott and Joseph Yobo. They also possess two of the best midfielders in the Premier League in the shape of Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill. Moyes also has a variety of forwards at his disposal in the shape of Yakubu, Andrew Johnson, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan. However, Johnson’s goals have dried up whilst Anichebe and Vaughan are unproven at the top level. Only Yakubu has proven himself a regular goalscorer as 15 League goals in his first Toffees season more than illustrates.

Reports in the press claim Moyes has requested a transfer kitty of £40million to take the Toffees to the next level whilst Phil Neville has urged the club to compete with the 4 clubs ahead of them for top-class signings and match the manager’s obvious ambition to take Everton to the very top.

We want to hear your views on just who the Toffees need to target to finally break up the current so-called big four?

  1. adam Says:

    what the hell?

everton are a long way from replacing Liverpool…it wont happen…but u people need to make headline dont you

“If not for some diabolical refereeing decisions, injuries to key men and a general lack of depth in the Everton squad the Toffees may well have replaced Liverpool in Europe’s Premier cup competiton.”

HAHA that is a lot of different variables to make Everton a top four team…this quote is a load of crap…but of course you would disagree with me.

  2. John Says:

Pele, Maradonna, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cantona, George Weah, Maldini, Zidane, Cech, Vidic, Messi,

That should do the trick, They ll NEVER get in the top four. Everton is exactly where they belong,

  3. Shiraz Says:

I cannot agree more more with the previous 2 comments. Everton finished way behind the top 4 in the end, could not beat any side in the top 6 or something like that, played crap football all season and scraped many 1-0 wins. Even had they beat Pool to 4th, they would probably had lost the qualifying tie like in 2005. They have overachieved by finishing 5th. Next season, with Spurs , Villa and other strengthening, they will finish near mid table, which is probably a fair reflection of their level.

  4. Bean Says:

    We’ve done it before….

Convenient that you forget about that. Reds by any chance?!

  5. Craig Says:

Without gerrard and torres where would Liverpool be not in the top four that is for sure so Everton to finish 5th without Cahill and Arteta for large parts of the season is pretty good if Everton sign 3 Qualiy players they will push for the top four again to get in it though will be tough major investment is needed for Moyes to make the next step
As for Liverool they will need 3 world class players to even think of challenging Man utd

  6. Bean Says:

Err…who out of Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal did Liverpool beat?

    Short memories and blinkered views

  7. Shiraz Says:

Actually Liverpool lost both matches to manure, but drew home and away v the other 2. They also did the double over Everton if memory serves me right. And please do not come with the we wuz robbed stuff at Gooderson, cos Pool can say they were robbed v Chelski at home. These things happen. In any case, the Anfields Derby was so 1 sided, it was embarassing.

  8. Jack Mills Says:

Everton over-achieved by finishing 5th? Really? That’s 3 of the last 4 seasons some bitter reds say we over achieved. I didn’t think it was possible to be lucky so often. True we didn’t win against any of the top 3 - but neither did the reds….and they only won at Goodison by getting a penalty for a foul that occurred outside the box and for us being denied two stone-wall penaltys!

  9. Poul Says:

Well John you have got a short memory ….4th 11th 6th 5 th the last 4 years ? .. and adam .have a look at http://www.rightresult.net/ it looks as though it only needs some fair reffs to get it right … and without help from the men in black i wonder when you had been knocked out og the CL ???

  10. Craig Says:

    message to Shiraz
Hope liverpool keep Rafa doing a great job
Lucky for Liverpool Everton ran out of steam at crucial point as were above them for long period in the league
Hope you enjoy Champions league final as two far superior teams than Liverpool are in it

  11. Phil Says:

Makes me laugh, apart from two outsyanding players (Gerrard and Torres) Liverpool wouldn’t have finished 4th. You spend cash every year, to finish 4th! Everton are catching Liverpool up, end of story. If Moyes is able to bring in 2/3 more quality players next year I feel that 4th is in our reach, maybe 3rd. Make sure Manny Fernandes stays, then go after another quality midfielder. Get Cahill, Arteta and Vaughan back fully fit and we’ll be flying.

As for Liverpool, I’m so envious, you are clearly Premiership Champion material aren’t you. United, Chelsea and Arsenal don’t even consider you a threat. Enjoy your summer of trying to keep Gerrard! Only thing he hasn’t won is a Championship. He’s gonna have to leave to get that. Bye, bye Stevie………

  12. Mark Says:

Everton finished as many points behind liverpool as liverpool finished behind utd. I think that is about right.

The problem Everton will have is that becasue of his small squad moyes has been able to keep them all happy. If he buys 3 or 4 big names he’ll start having to rotate like the big 4 managers and that is when they might struggle. There is a big gap between Everton and Liverpool.

  13. Bean Says:

The true test of a manager is getting the best out of the resources you have. Look at what Moyes has achieved with a fraction of the budget Benitez has. And with our two best midfielders injured for much of the campaign and Yakubu, Pienaar and Yobo playing in the African Cup of Nations, 5th is a great achievement, with much more to come. Everton are building steadily. We’re on the rise.

  14. ste Says:

    keep dreaming

  15. Shiraz Says:

Lucky for Liverpool that Everton ran out of steam….its like saying lucky for Everton that Liverpool did not beat Brum home or away, or Wigan at home. Actually Rafa is doing a good job. A CL win, A final and a semi in 4 seasons. What would Moyes give just to play in the competition. Plus an FA Cup. When was the last time Everton won a trophy ???

  16. Jack Mills Says:

Everton proved this season that the only thing there is between Liverpool and Everton is the squad size. It was proved by the fact that we were right with them until tiredness kicked in. When’s the last time a small squad played as many games as Everton this season and still finished anywhere near 5th? Final proof of the denial of the reds is when they point out the we won many games 1-0….we only won 4 games 1-0. How come there’s no point made of how we only lost SIX games 1-0??? Once we lost at Anfield, the season was over…so reds shouldn’t take heart at all from the fact that the gap widened after that!

  17. Gareth Fieldstead Says:

It will be down to the boards ambition now. Moyes has proved he is the best manager in the premiership. Two manager of the season awards in the last 4 seasons, how many has Rafa won? Liverpool have spent nearly 3 times the amount Moyes has had in the last 6 seasons, and you remain as close to a title as they did under Souness. We need 3 top class midfielders. I don’t think 40 million would do that but certainly we would break into the top four. Personnally I think we had a poor season. African Nations Cup affected us as did the long term injuries to Arteta, Cahill and Vaughne. We should be in the UEFA cup final and we should have beat Chelsea over two legs in the League Cup. Get the money out Kenwright

  18. Enda Says:

52 games with the second smallest squad in the premiership and at what point did liverpool take back 4th? the end of the season of course when fatigue sets in. a lot of the above comments are incredibly childish and some of ye should grow up and learn to debate with an unbiased opinion. i gurantee with a bit of squad strengthening everton will give liverpool a real run for their money for the 4th position in the premier league. there is not a huge gap between the two teams if there was why were our places reversed 3 seasons ago. If you honestly believe that everton overachieved in finishing 4th then there is no way that you can consider liverpool not to have overachieved in winning the cl…. i mean ye did finish 5th in the league that season. the fact of the matter is ye did win the champions league! and we did finish 4th! forget overachievement, we have been there to challenge ye for the last few years, expect another challenge next year

  19. Enda Says:

@ gareth never mind us spending 3 times less than liverpool. our net spending since january 2002 is £22million, less than the price of torres and we’ve assembled a full team capable of challenging

  20. Shiraz Says:

Liverpool only lost 4 matches all season and 2 of those were to the eventual champs. The fact that Everton were above them for so long could be attributed to the game in hand we had over them all season v West Ham due to CL commitments. The only reason Everton finished above Pool in 2005 was cos Rafa rested many of his star players ahead ob big CL matches. Face it guys, Pool may not be as good as man U at the moment, but in the same way, Everton cannot match Liverpool either. Going home. Cheers.

  21. Hicks Says:

    Owen, Sidwell, Kewell, Bullard, Lita.

3 out of these 5 would make us serious contenders for champions league. 2 goalscorers in there and 3 creative midfielders….perfect.

  22. Shiraz Says:

Now I do think its a bit mischievious that old Tom Hicks is getting involved acting as an Everton fan. Comon !!!

  23. Gaz Says:

Will all Liverpool fans please take your red tinted, rosy sunglasses off and realise that you are not all you are cracked up to be. You have two world class players and then a bunch of mediocre wannabes. Two players don’t make a team, and that will be proven when you finish outside the top 3 again next season.

If Liverpool actually win the league, then i will hold my hands up and say well done. But you havent even been close to ever winning the league, so stop pretending.

  24. paul Smith Says:

    God, Jesus, Mohammed and Moses!

  25. Shiraz Says:

How many World class players do Everton have ???
I do notice that you do not predict them to finish out of the top 4. We may not have challenged for the league, but for a silly OG, we would have been in a 3rd CL final in 4 years.

  26. Hicks Says:

does anybody have anything constructive to say?

does anybody actually know any footballers?

  27. Enda Says:

a cup isn’t a league. and the CL is a cup, don’t ever think it’s not. were porto the best team in europe when they won it? some managers are good at managing teams to do well in the cl… benitez is one of them. avram grant could win the cl this year and still get sacked…. because he couldn’t win the league. this is a bit ridiculous but it’s because the league matters more than any other competition…. maybe not money wise….but pride-wise. as a liverpool fan i’m sure any of ye if given the choice of winning the league or the cl….. ye’d pick the league every time

  28. Hicks Says:

enda is your first name bell?

  29. Enda Says:

:) no…. thats hardly constructive either :P although would be quite funny. enda is my first name

    as for knowing any footballers.

i’d like to see a bid for stuart downing, arshavin and maybe someone along the lines of modeste m’bami

  30. Nogsey Says:

Yeah, we need David Seaman, Gary Lineker, Pele and Alan Shearer to be our 4. Thought I too, would contribute a useful comment.

  31. Hicks Says:

    enda

    downing…too expensive.

    arshavin…a laugh

m’bami…would never come to everton and again too expensive

  32. Enda Says:

downing is a lot cheaper than moses or pele.

i’d actually love to see fernandes at goodisson next year…. he’s getting back to his best….. and i’d like to see a deal done for the euro championships

  33. Aff Says:

I think the most important signing for us is Fernandes, He is defensive but what skill going forward! his corsses, deadballs, runs and dribbling are mezmorizing. Together with someone like that arshavin from Zenit or David Bentley for the more forward attacking midfielder I think we could challenge anybody for any competition

so £14 for Fernandes, prob £12-16M for Bentley and £10M??? for Arshavin then thats the £40M Moyes has been asking for………

  34. Mark Says:

The everton fans are in cloud cuckoo land. It’s easy to keep 15 journeyman pro’s happy. Let’s see how moyes does if they ever sign a world class player. Bigger squad = more problems. I actually think buying the world class players everton need could be the undoing of the club. They have found a formula that works for them, to an extent, honest hard working players and not many of them. If they tamper with that the whole thing could crumble. As for liverpool only having two top class players, what about Masherano, Carrager, Reina (Golden Glove for 3rd consecutive season)

  35. Enda Says:

er i’d consider lescott to be world class….. especially considering ye believe carragher is world class

  36. Hicks Says:

mark is right. thats why we should go for the players i said.

    sidwell…free
    lita…£3m
    kewell…free
    owen…hmm who knows
    bullard £5m

    total £7m

but what everyone forgets is that there are signing on fees, agent fees and wages, that will take it to £40m!!!!

  37. Hicks Says:

im an everton fan and carragher is 100 times better than lescott!!!

  38. Hicks Says:

will everyone stop being so biased on here.

  39. Pancake Says:

    Who’s the Daddy!!!

  40. mrkefc Says:

Everton were only 11 points off 4th place this year, if we only had more strength in depth we could have been closer. Of course we need to aim for at least 4th Place next year. The redsh*te were 11 points off top this year and I’m sure they will have the disillusioned belief that they will win the league next year.

  41. mrkefc Says:

    Hmm Hicks sure you are.

  42. Baby Gerrard Says:

Pancake, why you stop sending child support for me?

  43. Hicks Says:

liverpool wont win the league next year and neither will arsenal at this rate.

it could be the top 2 and then a group of 6, liverpool, arsenal, everton, villa, blackburn, man city. then the rest of the no hopers including newcastle, portsmouth etc

  44. Hicks Says:

anyway back to the point, what players should we sign?

  45. Hicks Says:

im a liverpool fan and carragher is 100 times worse than lescott!!!

  46. Gillet Says:

Dunno Hicks who do you think your redsh*te team will sign?

  47. Hicks Says:

Oi im a bluenose through and through. if you want me to comment on liverpool im sure i could.

  48. Hicks Says:

    liverpool…ummm frank quedrue?

  49. Gillet Says:

Well you mustnt watch either of them then if you think carragher is 100 times better than lescott

  50. Bean Says:

I can’t believe any Everton fan…or any football fan for that matter…would ever say Carragher was a better player than Lescott!

  51. johnny01 Says:

I think that Moyes should sign the whole of the Liverpool team .He should then introduce all the liverpool players into the Everton side and then make all the previous players redundant. He should then employ Rafa Benitez as head coach and demote himself to groundsman. Finally, this new squad should be renamed a successful name such as Liverpool and the team also moved to a decent stadium with atmosphere such as Anfield.

  52. Gillet Says:

Totally agree bean, that Hicks bloke is a closet redsh*te

  53. Nogsey Says:

    I agree with johnny01. Haha

  54. johnny01 Says:

    So do I and I am johnny01

  55. uniefc Says:

I’ve taken the first “liverpool to win the league” bet of the summer.

As an Everton fan its even depressing me now, taking their money each year.

I think Arshavin and Sidwell will come in this summer, but we need someone else up front instead of Victor

  56. Gillet Says:

come on johnny weve got higher aspirations that a 4th place team.

  57. efc Says:

Im think if Vaughan has an injury free run, im pretty happy with our attacking options, think we desparately need some decent midfielders.
Keep Neville at rightback and hibbo as backup
    A creative centre mid (Fernandez?)
    Arshavin on the wing
New Defensive mid (with cars as backup)
Mabye put Arteta back in centre mid with Cahill just in front.
    And Ill be pretty happy

  58. johnny01 Says:

Oh Gillet shame!Fancy trying to aspire to be like Man Utd.Mind you scottish manager glory hunting fans,,, methinks you are already there!

  59. Legend Says:

David Moyes should have a look at these posts. I’m sure he’d find some very useful information, especially from Hicks about Lescott and Carragher. Douche

  60. gilet Says:

Johnny, comments made no sense what so ever. Whats aiming for a better league position than 4th got to do with scottish manager glory hunting fans??? Weird. Especially from a liverpool supporter. Dont tell me, your from london? Poland? Ireland?

  61. Bean Says:

    Norway probably

  62. John Says:

Voronin, Kuyt, Hyypia, Pennant, Riise, Itandje, ll be good additions, we want to get rid of them anyway…

  63. gilet Says:

Only kidding johnny01. I love you really. I also support Liverpool and want us to be good friends. :D

  64. johnny01 Says:

Bloody hell! your the one who made the fourth place and liverpool connection,,No need to guess where your from, its got to be somewhere near Goodison I think.

  65. gilet Says:

also can we meet in the bushes in stanley park after the match like we did after the liverpool arsenal game, I cant beleive how much i enjoyed my 1st gay experience.

  66. gilet Says:

exactly I support my local team, so where you from Johny01, Dawn Sawf? Suprise Suprise. Come on Ill give you some time to look at google maps so you can find somewhere near analfield you can pretend you live

  67. Bean Says:

Johnny01, question for you….give me an example of “somewhere near Goodison”. Because I’d hazard a guess you’ve never been near Liverpool if your life…

  68. Bean Says:

    *in you life

    obviously

  69. johnny01 Says:

I love you too gilet.Honestly, I really do.Lets meet halfway between Anfield and Goodison in Stanley Park. You bring the WhINE and I will bring the silver cups for us to drink it in.

    xxxxxxxxxxx

  70. Nogsey Says:

mmkay…this topic is now officially the most random.

  71. Bean Says:

Well done Johnny01, you know Stanley Park is between the two grounds….Anfield trivia 101

Now get on Google Earth, thre’s a good boy

  72. gilet Says:

think johnny01 has gone, obviously in a different timezone nowhere near liverpool - hahha

  73. Bean Says:

Come on then gilet. Now that we have destroyed johnny01, we can both watch our true favourite team…Tranmere Rovers together. :)

  74. gilet Says:

    hahahahahahah

    come on the rovers.

  75. johnny01 Says:

While I find where I am you try Googlin silverware and Everton. You could then paste both of the pics together. Then with a large amount of imagination you could dream that Everton are finally cup winners. Do it yourself sort of thing. One things for sure its the nearest you’ll get to this scenario.unless you change teams and support another like say Liverpool….

  76. gilet Says:

good job you’ve got the internet Johnny otherwise you wouldn’t even know where liverpool played. Im actually a man utd supporter, so Out trophy cabinets been pretty full lately, how about yours? And you cant talk about more that 3 yrs old - hahah.

    So WERE ARE YOU FROM??????????

  77. johnny01 Says:

Tell by the grammar your a Moss Sider!

  78. johnny01 Says:

    INNIT

  79. gilet Says:

so where about is moss side? Just Out Of Curiosity?

  80. gilet Says:

    quick google maps

  81. johnny01 Says:

Moss side is where Kate usually lays for days after she’s had too many lines the night before.

  82. Bean Says:

I think David Moyes needs to recruit Johnny01 and Gilet. Their passion for football is astounding.

  83. gilet Says:

ok then. So where are you from???????

  84. johnny01 Says:

    Crocky

  85. gilet Says:

    ME TOO!!!!! lets be friends.
    xxx

  86. gilet Says:

sure, another place youve heard of on the news. Where near crocky???

  87. BluenoseSteve Says:

How about Arshavin on the flank, Makoun instead of Carsley, a top centre forward such as Fabiano from Sevilla and Jimmy Bullard

  88. gilet Says:

come on bean, im just amazed why johnny01 cant support his local team. is that too much to ask?

  89. efc Says:

Im not convinced about bullard, nor kevin davis as others are also suggesting, would gladly exchange defoe for johnson though.

  90. johnny01 Says:

    near ya ma!

  91. gilet Says:

in walton cemetary, why would you be paying her a vist?

  92. gbh Says:

all u reds who think the quotes are outrageous check out this site.

    http://www.rightresult.net/

As for players, bullard is ace, dont want owen, too injury prone, Id take scharner, Kapo is decent at Brum, Ireland at city is talented, Duff could be surplus at Newcastle, Id love johnson from pompey. They are all players i know well enough to take a chance on. Arsharvin looked good in europe but we all know how 2 games dont make the player

  93. Ger J Says:

Go away and learn how to spell first, Adam, before you try to make an argument. And when you do learn to spell, maybe try and come up with an ACTUAL argument before you start typing. ‘HAHA’ is not an argument. The original part of the piece you quoted was a perfectly valid point that had been made; Everton WERE comepletely screwed in the Goodison half of the Merseyside derby. Even neutrals were stunned by the shocking decisions that were made, and by the blatant and frankly stunning favouritism shown by Mark Clattenburg. Gerrard has a quick word with the ‘ref’ and suddenly Hibbert is given his marching orders instead of the yellow which Clattenburg was originally reaching for. And as for Kuyt - he shouldn’t even have been on the pitch to score his penalty. He nearly cut Neville in two; had Neville stayed around for even minimal contact, Kuyt would have been gone, but then that is irrelevant. Intent should be take into account more than the outcome. And as for the Lescott incident near the end? I could go on but I won’t bother.
What we’ve achieved with the squad we have is staggering - how would you have done without Torres and Gerrard?? I don’t think you’d have finished 4th, or even 5th - you’d be applying for an Intertoto place round about now.
It’s obvious you’re a Liverpool fan; no one else would write a reply that laughs idiotically at an intelligent and debate-sparking piece that you no doubt stuttered through reading. And only a typical Liverpool idiot supporter would fail to see the underpinned message - Liverpool, with all their money and swagger, once again struggled to even finish in the top 4, nevertomind win the Premiership. I think you’ll be pleased to know that its ironic that while you’re laughing at Everton being supposedly way off the Top 4, the rest of the league (including Everton) are laughing so hard at you it hurts. Year in and year out you struggle to get near the big three above you; year in, year out you lament your cr@ppy, patchy form (’if only we’d started as well as we’d finished/finished as well as we started/if only we’d been good round xmas, etc, ad nauseum) - and all this with a ridiculous budget every year to spend.
Without Torres this year you’d have finished sixth. Plain and simple.
So before you bungle into a conversation, take a look at what has happened the past few years. You’ve spent a fortune and are still WAY off the teams above you. You jammed a European championship by playing a few teams who were well past their best, which was never illustrated more clearly than in the final itself.
If I was a Liverpool fan I’d be ashamed and frustrated right now. But then you’re probably too busy half reading posts and making non existent points while jabbing the H and A keys with your two index fingers.
Enjoy being a Liverpool fan, enjoy always thinking you’re better than you are while we motor past you and do what you appear unable to do with a fraction of the budget.

  94. johnny01 Says:

Oh my god listen to the gospel according to St Gez.How can you think that anyone would give you any credulity at all, with your obvious relentless biased account of Liverpools season. You are obviously good at reading other peoples reports in the press and plagiarising each of the critical accounts given about Liverpool. You see, cut and pasting facts and figures onto a page may impress stato but,it does not lead to a good argument.Neccessarily an argument should be based upon a balanced informational account of a subject-you know sort of good here bad there- not like the officious one sided argument as you seem to proport.I think the individual who stated HAHA gave a better account of an argument than you have within your ridiculous wordy trying to impress diatribe,as at least Adam gave his OWN HONEST ACCOUNT OF WHAT HE THOUGHT.

  95. Nogsey Says:

    :@ :0 :O

  96. johnny01 Says:

    :)

  97. johnny01 Says:

    :(

  98. Hicks Says:

right im back. going back to carragher v lescott. lescott is a great young talent and will become world class. carragher is world class. if you were 1-0 up and needed someone to defend for their life i would take carragher. ok he wont score as many goals but if my life depended on it….carragher every time.

however, if i was buying one of them i would shell out for lescott for obvious reasons.

  99. Hicks Says:

owen is too injury prone…ha ha is he didnt notice.

however he has scored 1 in 2 everywhere he has been. if he plays 30 times, which he did this season, he gets 15 goals. same as the yak????

  100. Nogsey Says:

    100th comment! XD

  101. Nogsey Says:

    100th Comment!!!!

  102. Nogsey Says:

Sorry, just testing. Anyway, back to the topic. :D

  103. johnny01 Says:

Nogsey please get a life!! :)

  104. johnny01 Says:

    Get a life Nogsey :)

  105. johnny01 Says:

    Nogsey get a life

  106. Ger J Says:

To Johnny01 - Everything I said in my piece was MY OWN OPINION and based on my observations during the year. I NEVER read papers and very rarely watch the news. So that ends your theory right there, I’m sorry to say. Secondly, saying ‘Adam said what he thought’ doesn’t even make sense as he clearly hardly thought at all. It might surprise you to know that I’m probably one of the most amiable Everton fans you’ll ever meet; most of my friends are Reds fans. I think Torres is a fabulous player. There are other teams that I like far less than Liverpool. But when some moron comes along and puts up a post that is utterly non-sensical and devoid of any real thought, that is when I’ll let him have it with both barrels!
I’ve never cut and paste anything in my life and I never will, Johnny01; everything in this mail and the original are my own thoughts and, as previously stated, based entirely on my own observations. I’m not saying Liverpool had a bad season, but when someone says we’re miles off them I think everyone but the most die hard Reds fan can dismiss that as a total load. And for your information, an argument doesn’t have to be ‘you know sort of good here bad there’ - it can be whatever you want as long as you back it up with valid points, which I did.
Do yourself a favour; stop trying to defend the indefensible and concentrate on what your opinion on the debate itself - are Everton close to Liverpool and who do they need to buy to strengthen for next year?

Point taken Ger..Its just that your article sounded slightly sermonish and although there were a few valid points I think number of others were just extrapolted to justify your definitive point i.e.Liverpool bad.Nontheless, I may have given Adam more credit than he deserved and maybe you too little.
Its just that I know you tried to inform but you also tried to lecture.Liverpool fans are dissapointed with how the season has ended and above all we don’t need an Evertonian to reiterate and pour salt in the wounds.

the right result website is rubbish it is not a true reflexion of right results….come on football fans and open your eyes…just because it shows everton higher then liverpool, you naturally will be taken in by its nonsense.

who is to say that you would have scored a penalty…or if you got a goal that liverpool wouldnt have gone down the other end and scored…like liverpool vs arsenal?

Lets be honest, Liverpool are better then Everton…maybe because of money…but not because of ref decisions.

Liverpool are a bigger club also…please everton fans lets not kid yourself…

you are the same as liverpool is one respect tho…u believe that you will do better next season…as everton and liverpool say every season…

    im a liverpool fan…but im a realist…

Everton wont finish higher then liverpool…

    Liverpool wont win the league…

Its the way it is…stop with the bias stuff and face reality

(LOL and stop quoting the right result nonsense…its not accurate of a true game or result, use ur bloodly brain)

  109. Londonlad Says:

Arshavin won’t be going to Merseyside he will come to the bright lights of the capital where he live the high life!

  110. Ger J Says:

To johnny 01: Fair enough lad, you’re right too, I was being a bit sermonish! I guess neither set of fans like to be rubbed the wrong way whether its to do with be called underachievers, or being told they’re farther behind their rivals than they actually are!
Anyhoo, enough said…I just hope we don’t by Kewell off ye, ha ha! Altho who knows, maybe if he stayed fit we’d get a good year or two out of him!

  111. adam Says:

didnt you want to reply to me Ger J???

“intelligent and debate-sparking piece that you no doubt stuttered through reading.”

dont even try and think your point is more valid then mine mate, the fact is they are both opinions are of bias football fans…you and me! dont argue…its true.

the hibbert red card was a red card…even if gerrerd stated what should have been done to the ref…common sense buddie…

the fact is even with liverpools underachieving season…liverpool playing “bad”…how reds are up themselfs about their predictions…EVERTON still finished a comfortable way behind them

oh and its quite apperent that your an everton fan…i can sense the bitterness from here.
    i no how u feel…we finished 5th a few year back too…hurts doesn’t it.

    oh…one more thing…

the right result website is rubbish it is not a true reflexion of right results…FACT

YOU CAN NOT ARGUE WITH FACTS Ger J and this my friend is a FACT!

  112. adam Says:

“If not for some diabolical refereeing decisions, injuries to key men and a general lack of depth in the Everton squad the Toffees may well have replaced Liverpool in Europe’s Premier cup competiton.”

and with this quote…shall we deconstruct.

“a general lack of depth in the Everton squad”

are u thick or just retarded…this is the reason the top for are the top four!
because they have the squads for the premiership run in…

the argument that you have put forward mate is pointless…bad workmen blame what?
