West Ham Set to Replace Ashton with £10m Manchester United Striker

Saha hasn’t had much call to take the training jacket off this seasonAfter reporting on Sunday that West Ham’s Dean Ashton could be poised to jump on the district line final - destination White Hart Lane -such a move now seems all the more probable after the Hammers line up a bid for Manchester United’s Louis Saha.

Saha has only played a handful of games after the plague of injuries he has had since signing for United continued this season. After having a knee op last summer, the Frenchman has endured several setbacks during the course of the season. He’s featured in just 24 matches across all competitions and only made the starting XI on 10 occasions in games against such teams as Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham and himself admits the sun is likely to set on his time at Old Trafford following the Champions League final.

With just five goals to his name, it is a wonder whether he’s the best option for the Hammers. Finishing the season will a goal difference of -8, Alan Curbishley needs to add reliable firepower is they are to continue moving in the right direction. However, if we’re being positive, some of the goals Saha netted were crucial in United success in retaining the title; he got the winner against Sunderland at the start of September setting the Reds back on the winning tracks after that disastrous start.

I can’t help but wonder if by drafting Saha in as a replacement for Ashton Alan Curbishley is setting himself up for similar problems as he had this time. The Hammers have had the worst luck in terms of injuries this season; Ashton himself damaged knee ligaments and missed six weeks worth of matches. With Saha set to celebrate his 30th birthday this August and with his lack of regular first time football, is he going to make that much of a difference at Upton Park?

WHL isn’t on the dustrict line…read the West Ham website no chance of ASshton going but gives the wrok experience kid something too write..and Andy Johnson!! no truh errrr. there injury prone, havent played well for 18 months, over 27 and had a great 04/05 season they tick all the boxes for Curbs!! why aren’t we going in for Ramsey/Bostock/Scannel/Fox etc!!!??? our business model is awful offering ageing tripe like the above 4 year wages on ridculous money with no sell on fee. As much as it pains me to say Spurs are light years ahead with what they are doing.

  2. Denis Mcallister Says:

Completely stupid to buy another injury prone player.Has curbishley not learned his lesson ?

  3. Jose Says:

You aren’t going for Bostock purely because he is going to a FAR bigger club.
    Same with Ramsay.

Also, why does it pain you so much to admit SPurs are light years ahead of West Ham? At EVERY single point in footballing history, Tottenham have been light years ahead of West Ham…it’s hardly anything new is it?
Know your place…alongisde the likes of Charlton, Fulham, QPR and even Palace.

  5. sf Says:

    Hahaha

Spuds make me laugh - who else are they going to “nearly sign” this summer?

Deano has said he wants to stay.

  6. iLford Iron Says:

JOSE Jose jose what a complete muppet you are ,if your Spud team is so lights ahead of the hammers why did we finish above you with a half decent injury prone squad, u have berbatov and all those other expensive players, dont get me wrong, u have a great squad or maybe not the league positions do not lie.,… and remember west ham were nearly relegated last season, the plan was for us to stabilize our club(cant spell)which we did and we still finished above you even after losing 3 games 4-0 on the trot we still didnt even drop a spot, and we was able to stay in 10th. You must be quite scared now as we are looking now a team with more potential then the spuds, you lot have been doing the same thing for years and not doing anything anything at all, why do u lot spend so much money why??? is it to play in the uefa cup or to win the carling cup, you lot are always act like you are pushing on but i cant see it, and you should have done something more constructive then the carling cup in recent years, even an FA cup final wouldnt go a miss down at the lane. (the slow lane) we have acheived something in this season alone with our B team which is to be stable and if we can finish in a strong 10th position with all our injuries, people playing out of position and all the pressures of the premiership, with our new Director of football or what ever his title is NanI he is now going to bring in some foreign youngsters who will now make us push on, dont be fooled by what u read and who we are interested in saha, dunn, carr,sidwell…..dont make me laugh they will sack curbishley before they let him bring in any more old time injury prone players. we have learnt from our mistakes, espeacially the one about talking about how much money we have as we saw what that can do by the wages that some of our not so great player are on plus the small issue of DARREN BENT costing you mugs 16-17 Million…hahahahah….all because the teams all knew that west ham have now got cash and they are looking for players because they could get relegated….so because of that you lot ended up paying all that money for a not all that type of player. We are now going to push on….oh yes how can i forget, The ACADEMY…..you saw some fruits of its labour by a name called FRDDIE SEARS….or if you want to see more fruits of one of if not the best ACADEMY in the universe then please put the TV on tommorow and watch the the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL there will be a few fruits off of our tree playing in that match.

  7. hehe Says:

and how many of those players from your academy do you get to keep?
Just a note on transfers between our 2 clubs..

    Defoe, Kanoute, Carrick

    and

    Zamora, Taricco, Davenport, Etherington……

    I’m sure there’s probably 1 or 2 more.

  8. JMan Says:

Again a load of rubbish just to get the yids going off to pull their puds. Sorry bozos Ashton’s not going anywhere near you guys and according to the news we are in for Saha, Johnson, Gulberti, Gudjohnsen, might as well add a few more, rubbish journalism is what it is and Ashton stays at UP a club on the up not like WHL!!

  9. Hammer time Says:

JMan - do you even read what your writing a response to?

“According to the news we are in for Saha”

THIS WHOLE ARTICLE IS ABOUT SAHA and how he’s not a good buy because he is SO injury prone. The last thing we need to a player, or a bunch of players, who will spend their season warming the bench or on the physio table.

  10. Paul A Says:

In reply to Ilford Iron as the song goes “and if you know your history”

    8 FA CUPS
4 LEAGUE CUPS - ONE THIS YEAR!
    3 EUROPEAN TROPHYS
2 LEAGUE TITLES - INCLUDING DOMESTIC DOUBLE
    6 CHARITY SHIELDS
    ETC ETC ETC

    YOU CAN STICK BUBBLES

  11. Brendan Says:

Quite ridiculous how you can seriously think that West Ham have more potential than Tottenham at the moment. The difference between the 2 teams is summed up in the attitudes the fans have towards their seasons performance. Whilst Tottenham did win the Carling Cup our season was still deemed as an under-achivement to finish below WHAM, is just salt to rub in the wounds. At the same time the majority of West Ham fans view last season as a sucess??? That’s because 10th is the limit of your clubs ambitions, now please don’t hold Ashton back any longer, sell him to Tottenham so he can get in the England Team just like Defoe & Carrick did with Spurs, Rio through Leeds and Man U, Lamps & Cole through Chelsea. Cheers

  12. Sean Says:

I think Dean Ashton is capable of coming-on over the next few years, to become the Big Man of the england strike force. As such, of course, I think he would be good at Spurs. Not as good as Berbatov. Perhaps different, rather than better or worse, than Darren bent, who i would still like to see given more of a chance. the problem with Spurs buying Ashton is that, well, he is English, as such he is likely to cost a small fortune - I would be surprised at anything less than the 16 million paid for Bent. And I do think as good or better could be got cheaper by looking elsewhere.
As far as your team is concerned - early reports are that the talks are going well, and that he doesn’t want to leave and the club don’t want to sell him. Somewhat surprised, however, that this is even raising its head - I thought the idea, under the Icelandic consortium, was that you would become a buying club, rather than a selling club (which you have undoubtedly been, sorry but it’s just true), and he was a high profile purchase.
But there again, you are WET SPAM so what should we expect ;-)

  13. Mel Says:

This story is about as accurate as the author’s knowledge of the District Line. Muppet!

  14. Blaugrana Says:

I think you’ll find Barca have the best academy in the universe!!
