Daniel Alves Transfer Saga Ends: Manchester United, Chelsea & Liverpool Miss Out as Brazilian Star Joins Barca!
The Daniel Alves will he, won’t he leave Sevilla saga has finally ended this summer as the Brazilian marauding full-back has joined Barcelona. There’s been no shortage of suitors for the Brazilian international from some of the biggest clubs in the world. But the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all missed out as the Catalan giants have swooped in a staggering £23.5m deal.
That price tag has made 25-year-old Alves the most costly right-back in world football. Chelsea were the closest Premier League club to signing the star as the Stamford Bridge billionaires had a bid turned down during the January transfer window. However, they soon switched targets and resultedly moved for Porto’s £16.2m Jose Bosingwa.
Manchester United and Liverpool however, may well still be looking to strengthen their right full-back positions as the Reds have struggled to fill that role with free-transfer signing Philippe Degen expected to be nothing more than a squad player. The Red Devils on the other hand have played almost an entire season without their captain Gary Neville as Wes Brown has deputised admirably in his absence. However, with the long-term doubts over Neville’s fitness and Brown’s lack of attacking qualities Alves perhaps would’ve been the perfect signing.
The former Sevilla man has reached double figures in Brazilian caps and is the natural successor to the legendary figure of Cafu for his country. He has won 2 Uefa Cups, 1 Spanish Super Cup, 1 Copa Del Rey and 1 European Super Cup in his short time with the Seville-based club all under current Spurs boss Juande Ramos. He was also voted the Uefa Cup’s most valuable player as well as the Uefa Super Cup’s most valuable player in 2006. Alves also was part of the Brazilian side that won the 2007 Copa America so comes with a real winning pedigree.
Alves has joined the likes of midfielder Seydou Keita as well as defenders Martin Caceres and Gerard Pique as new Barca recruits in what will be a new look side next season. The Catalan giants are looking to offload a number of first team players such as Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho but the rebuilding process has begun in earnest with the major signing of the ‘Braziliant’ Daniel Alves.
So are you disappointed your club didn’t compete for the superb full-back or do you feel £23.5m is a ridiculous amount to pay for a full-back? Let’s hear your views.

he was expensive but he would have been worth it for me as we don’t need to improve many areas of the side. Gary Nev is struggling so we should have paid the cash for him…gutted

It’s not as if the scousers would have ever been able to a) attract him or b) afford him. Shame we didn’t get him but we will see win the title yet again next season….dream on Rafa!

Would have been good for United. Neveille’s about to claim his pension and Wes Brown should be in the second division…Scotlands.
United are a one man team…let’s watch them cry when Ronaldo leaves, leaving a team about to claim their pension Somebody put Scholes out of his misery

it’s painful sevilla would overprice the player when chelsea needed him the most. I hope bosingwa would be able to fix the problem with that position at chelsea. for dani, it’s a step in the right direction. wish him good luck.
for me, blues for live!
