Reports suggest Middlesbrough are set to begin a Premier League bidding war for Celtic’s flying winger Aiden McGeady this month which will alert a number of his admirers including Newcastle, Spurs, Aston Villa and Sunderland.

If you were asked to name who the current top scorer in Europe was you’d expect one of the biggest names in club football to be at the top of your list. Strikers like Samuel Eto’o of Barcelona, Luca Toni of Bayern or Nicolas Anelka of Chelsea. Instead the top scorer is a little known Austrian by the name of Marc Janko who has scored a staggering 30 League goals in just 20 appearances (18 starts) this season.

Bayern Munich look set to make a move for the Bundesliga’s top scorer Vedad Ibisevic in January according to Club President Franz Beckenbauer. The German legend nicknamed the ‘Kaiser’ told Premiere, “We are interested in all players that can help us improve and Ibisevic is one of those”.

Strikers like Samuel Eto’o of Barcelona, Luca Toni of Bayern or Nicolas Anelka of Chelsea. Instead the top scorer is a little known Austrian by the name of Marc Janko who has scored a staggering 29 League goals in just 19 appearances (17 starts) this season. This week the 25-year-old has spoken of his ‘dream’ of playing in England. If the Salzburg striker continues this form, he may well soon get his wish.

The press have suggested it’s advantage Manchester United and Liverpool following Chelsea’s shock home defeat to Arsenal at the weekend. However, though this was a great result for the two North-West clubs, there is still a million miles to go yet. The games come thick and fast throughout February and March so at the moment it’s all about getting yourself into a challenging position.

Bayern Munich star Lukas Podolski looks set to leave the Allianz Arena in January after failing to nail down a first team place with the Bundesliga giants. The talented forward has been linked to moves to Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Manchester City in the summer but remains in Germany though is getting increasingly disgruntled after constantly being used from the bench.

Spanish international and former transfer target of a number of Premier League clubs Ruben De La Red is reported to have a serious heart problem after collapsing on the pitch at the end of last month. The 23-year-old was linked to moves to Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and Aston Villa in the summer but instead committed himself to Real Madrid.

After beating Arsenal last weekend, Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill will be aiming to get the better of Arsene Wenger once again with the signing of Belgian starlet Steven Defour in January. The two clubs look set to enter a bidding war for the young playmaker though they may well not be alone as at least 9 Premier League clubs are reported to be tracking the Belgian international.

Arsenal were beaten again last weekend which seems to shock everyone, but it’s no surprise to me. The Gunners are simply not good enough at the moment. They are defensively feeble so they’ve got absolutely no chance of winning the title this season. They may have beaten United but they had to rely on the opposition missing a number of gilt-edged opportunities in doing so.
