Birmingham v QPR: The Blues Have Rangers Jumping through Hoops?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

After getting off to a blinding start, it seems Birmingham’s attempts to re-enter the Premier League has stuttered ever so slightly. So can the Chelsea of the Championship cash in on the Blues dip in form?

Birmingham v Blackpool: No Sign of the Blues for Birmingham

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Birmingham remain undefeated in the Championship, a draw against Norwich the only blip on their radar. And it would seem there is very little threat on that barely blemished record here as the Blues face a team who last managed to defeat them away from home in December 1969. So that’s one step close the £225,000 Footy 15 jackpot!

Have West Brom Made a Mistake Not Keeping Birmingham Bound Kevin Phillips?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Kevin Phillips has joined Championship side Birmingham after failing to agree an extension to his contract at newly promoted West Brom this week. The evergreen 34-year-old signed a 2-year contract with the Blues after only being offered a 1-year deal with the Baggies. The impact of this departure to Tony Mowbray’s sides Premier League survival hopes may be huge. After all, Phillips scored a quarter of the club’s 88 League goals last season.

Birmingham v Blackburn: Blues on Roque Road to Relegation Despite a Point?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Alex McLeish’s Birmingham side slipped into their lowest League position of the season following their dismal defeat at fellow relegation strugglers Fulham last weekend. Their future is no longer in their own hands as they lie a point behind the two sides they are competing with for survival. Unfortunately for the Blues they are about to face a Rovers team with their star forward on a superb scoring streak. That man is the prolific Paraguayan hitman - Roque Santa Cruz.

Bolton, Birmingham, Reading or Fulham – Relegation Beckons But For Which Two

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

The end of the season is nigh and what’s great is competition is still rife in all areas of the league. So with this in mind from now until D-Day, Judgement Day, Silverware Sunday - or whatever appropriately titled pun Sky Sports creatively(!) come up with - I am sticking my neck on the line (after looking at the stats mind) and predicting who’ll go down, who’ll lift the trophy and who’ll nap fifth place. Today - it’s the R word.

Fulham v Birmingham: Cottagers Keep their Survival Hopes Alive as the Championship Beckons for the Blues?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

This is arguably the most important Premier League match of the weekend as a defeat for either side will leave them with an uphill task of securing their survival on the last day of the season. The teams directly above this pair (Bolton and Reading) both have home fixtures this weekend which you’d expect them to get points from. So Fulham in particular really do need all 3 points to stand a fighting chance of safety.

The Pools Poll: Birmingham, Bolton or some other poor soul - who’ll be relegated?

Monday, April 21st, 2008

While Bolton fans rejoice, Birmingham followers start to sweat. A great win for the Trotters away to Middlesbrough on Saturday sees them move out of the bottom 3 to be replaced by Birmingham after a nightmare derby day defeat. And with Reading, Boro, Wigan and Sunderland still not 100% sure of safety, we’re asking…..

Birmingham v Everton: Toffees to Take the Points to Keep their Champions League Dreams Alive?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This is a huge match on your Premier 10 fixture list this week with Birmingham fighting for survival and Everton fighting for not only the last Champions League spot but also to stay in 5th spot as Portsmouth are beginning to bite at their heels. Neither side is in top form and could be missing key players, however, history points towards backing the away side in this one.

Wigan v Birmingham: Bruce is Ecstatic as Birmingham Fail to Trouble his Latics?

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

With both teams scuffling down at the wrong end of the table, this game is already being dubbed your epic 6-pointer. Throw in the whole Steve Bruce issue from back in November and you really do have a Premier 10 classic in the making.

Birmingham v Tottenham: The Carling Cup Champions Celebrate Another Victory?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

This tie brings happy memories for Alex McLeish and Birmingham. When the Scotsman took firm grasp of the club’s reins back in November, Spurs were the first team he encountered and, more importantly, beat 3-2. It was the club’s first win in the fixture for four seasons and immediately cast McLeish as City’s shining light.
