Alan Hansen Column on the Transfer Window, Mark Hughes, Sam Allardyce and Rafa Benitez

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Manchester City will certainly be looking to strengthen in all departments and you can always make your team stronger. That’s the thing about the transfer window, every team will be looking to see if there are players they can bring in who can make them better, then of course you have to equate that to how much money you’ve got and who’s available.

Blackburn Rovers v Manchester United: Rovers Return to Settle Old Scores

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Paul Ince played under the reign of Alex Ferguson for six years and from Blackburn’s solid start - 10 points from a possible 18 placing them 7th in the league - highlights that the 40-year-old has picked up a tip or two from his former mentor.

West Ham v Blackburn: Rovers Enjoy a Ride on the Hammers Rollercoaster?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

One week passes and we have two very different West Ham performances. From a cracking start against Wigan to a crushing blow against Man City, it feels like Hammer fans are set for another rollercoaster of a season. But their ride could take a turn for the better as they welcome Blackburn to Upton Park this weekend.

Is Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz Really Good Enough to Fill Arsenal’s Adebayor’s Boots or Even Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo’s?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Coming to Blackburn for a miniscule £3.8m, Roque Santa Cruz is without doubt one of the biggest football bargains. A staggering 23 goals for Rovers in all competitions, plus an additional three for his native Paraguay only highlights one, what vision Mark Hughes has as a manager and two, exactly how much of a bargain the 26-year-old really was (cost just over £150,000 per goal - peanuts in today’s terms).

After interviewing six candidates, Blackburn Rovers are set to announce Mark Hughes’ replacement come the end of the week with Allardyce, Ince and McClaren the three front runners. The selected manager is crucial; David Bentley’s future amongst others is likely to rely on the decided appointment. So, Rovers fans…

Blackburn are in Trouble as the Best Manager They Can Get is Allowed to Leave

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

What are Blackburn Rovers thinking? The club has given Mark Hughes permission to talk to Manchester City, accepting it’s time for Hughes to move on to bigger and better things. Blackburn fans, you must be gutted. Your club has basically conceded that Man City is a better club. So I’m asking - Where’s your self belief?

Arsenal to Replace Adebayor with Blackburn’s South American Star if Lure of Barcelona Proves too Strong?

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Arsene Wenger has been linked to a move for Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz if Emmanuel Adebayor decides to leave to join the Catalan giants Barcelona. With Frank Rijkaard being replaced by Barca legend Josep Guardiola there is expected to be a major upheaval at the Camp Nou with a number of comings and goings. Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry are all expected to depart so it’s no surprise that the Gunners Togolese hitman is being linked with arguably the biggest club in Europe.

Birmingham v Blackburn: Blues on Roque Road to Relegation Despite a Point?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Alex McLeish’s Birmingham side slipped into their lowest League position of the season following their dismal defeat at fellow relegation strugglers Fulham last weekend. Their future is no longer in their own hands as they lie a point behind the two sides they are competing with for survival. Unfortunately for the Blues they are about to face a Rovers team with their star forward on a superb scoring streak. That man is the prolific Paraguayan hitman - Roque Santa Cruz.

Blackburn v Derby: Robbie’s Rams Savaged by Rovers?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The rock bottom Rams travel to Ewood Park this weekend for the penultimate game of their miserable season-long stay in the Premier League. Derby have now gone nearly 8 months without a League victory and I would advise Premier 10 players not to back them to end that run at Blackburn this weekend.

Portsmouth v Blackburn: Pompey Rejoin the Race for 5th Place by Routing Rovers?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

FA Cup finalists Pompey entertain Blackburn this weekend aiming to get their late surge for 5th place back on track. On form it’s the home side who look the Premier 10 favourites this week, however, Rovers superb record at Fratton Park should be taken into account.
