Fulham v Bolton: There’s No Place Like Home for the Cottagers

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

2-1, thems the magic numbers between these two teams. Four of last six league matches between Fulham and Bolton have finished with a 2-1 score line and the home team celebrating. And £200k and £40,000 are the magic numbers for The New Football Pools as this week Footy 15 has a staggering £200,000 jackpot and it’s a Premier 10 rollover too with £40,000 there to win.

Bolton aiming for a new double strike force courtesy of a Manchester United and Portsmouth raid

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Just the one point salvaged Bolton from the drop last season; their main problem being a devastating lack of firepower. Despite leaving the club midway through the season, Nicolas Anelka remained the Trotters top goal scorer with 10 league goals; Nolan followed up with just half that tally, Diouf with four and then McCann three. So this latest news regarding a brand spanking new, experienced, front duo should bring music to Bolton fans ears. Or should it?

Chelsea v Bolton: Blues Triumph over Trotters but is it Too Little, Too Late for the Title?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The Blues are back to their best, doing what they’ve been good at in recent years - grinding out points and contesting trophies. This weekend they need to better Manchester United’s result at Wigan to win the title despite looking well out of the championship race just 2 months ago. Fortunately for Avram Grant and co. they face a Bolton team assured of Premier League survival barring a miraculous turn of events. Premier 10 players, mark this one down as a home win!

Bolton, Birmingham, Reading or Fulham – Relegation Beckons But For Which Two

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

The end of the season is nigh and what’s great is competition is still rife in all areas of the league. So with this in mind from now until D-Day, Judgement Day, Silverware Sunday - or whatever appropriately titled pun Sky Sports creatively(!) come up with - I am sticking my neck on the line (after looking at the stats mind) and predicting who’ll go down, who’ll lift the trophy and who’ll nap fifth place. Today - it’s the R word.

Bolton v Sunderland: Black Cats Luck to Push Bolton Down the Road to Relegation?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

If you’d asked me three weeks ago if I saw any light at the end of Bolton’s very dismal tunnel, it would have a resounding “No”. Although the light remains just a glimmer, I now think Bolton will live to fight another season.

Tottenham v Bolton: Defeat at the Lane Leave Trotters Wandering Dangerously Close to the Drop?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

If Bolton do go down this season they’ll be a number of delighted Premier League clubs who’ve struggled against their direct, in your face style over the years. One such club will be Tottenham. The North London aristocrats have been on the wrong end of a number of bruising defeats against the Trotters in recent seasons and to knock them off next season’s Premier League fixture list will be particularly pleasing. However, just when Bolton’s future looked bleaker than John Arne Riise’s chances of a new Liverpool contract, the Trotters pulled off back to back wins and their chances of survival suddenly looks far brighter. The dilemma for Premier 10 players this week is do they back the home side’s superior class or the away side’s fighting spirit. Not an easy choice I must admit.

The Pools Poll: Birmingham, Bolton or some other poor soul - who’ll be relegated?

Monday, April 21st, 2008

While Bolton fans rejoice, Birmingham followers start to sweat. A great win for the Trotters away to Middlesbrough on Saturday sees them move out of the bottom 3 to be replaced by Birmingham after a nightmare derby day defeat. And with Reading, Boro, Wigan and Sunderland still not 100% sure of safety, we’re asking…..

Bolton v Arsenal: Gunners Season off Track after another Tricky Trip to the Trotters?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Arsene Wenger’s young guns are misfiring at the moment after their worst run of form for 9 years. They’ve picked up a mere 4 points from the last 15 available after 4 draws and a defeat which have left them struggling to keep pace with League leaders United. On paper this looks a nice fixture for them to bounce back to their scintillating best, after all, Bolton are in the relegation zone and haven’t won a League game since early February. However, Wenger will be painfully aware that his team doesn’t usually enjoy their days out at the Reebok.

Bolton: Trotting Down a One Way Street to Championship Football?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Bolton Wanderers Gary Megson was met with much criticism last week after fielding an under par side in the club’s Uefa Cup second leg game against Sporting Lisbon.

Bolton v Liverpool: Rafa finally Trots Away with All Three Points?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The Reebok may not be considered very many teams’ bogey ground but that’s exactly what it is to Liverpool. Despite recent convincing displays against the Trotters (4-0 earlier this season and 3-0 in January last year), the Reds have not won in Bolton since September 2002.
