Reports suggest Aston Villa are set to return with a £10m bid for Celtic’s flying winger Aiden McGeady in January despite the Republic of Ireland star signing a new 5-year deal with the Glasgow giants in the summer. This turn of events will surely interest the likes of Sunderland who are known to be keen on the player. Newcastle have also been long-term admirers of McGeady but with their current situation will not be re-entering the chase.

The Champions Celtic face Hamilton for the first time since a League Cup clash in August 1990 but the last League meeting in the 1988/89 season ended in a 8-0 away win for the Glasgow giants. However, this match should be a lot closer though Celtic are in top scoring form.

Free scoring Celtic entertain Aberdeen this weekend with a superb recent record against the Dons. The Glasgow giants are unbeaten in the last 15 League encounters (14 wins) with Aberdeen so will be confident of more success.

The Killies unbeaten League run ended last weekend when they were beaten 2-1 at Rangers despite leading at half-time. This was in fact the first game that Kilmarnock had conceded this season with their former star Kris Boyd grabbing both goals. This weekend they face the champions Celtic who will be looking to close the 3 point gap between themselves and their Glasgow rivals.

Celtic may be unbeaten in their last five matches away at Motherwell but there is an air of bitterness when they face Motherwell. The Steelman last exerted some power and defeated the Bhoys on the last day of the 2004/05 season; a result which meant Celtic lost out on the SPL title to rivals Rangers.

This weekend sees the two richest clubs go head to head at Eastlands in an exciting encounter with Chelsea determined to teach the Man City upstarts a lesson. For me, Chelsea are the best team in the country so I would advise you to back the away side on Footy 15 this weekend especially with £200,000 up for grabs. It will be interesting to see City’s new signing Robinho in action as he is expected to make his debut in this match though I personally expect him to take time to bed into playing for Manchester City and to adapt to English football in general.

This will be the 380th Auld Firm derby with both of these sides undefeated in the SPL so far this season and having scored in all three of their league matches. But as we all know, the rule book and form guide tends to go out the window when a grudge match such as this occurs. That said, it’s always worth checking out the good old stats and data and the stats and data strongly point in Celtic’s favour.

There are a number of British clubs vying to sign Heerenveen’s 21-year-old midfielder Michael Bradley this summer with the Dutch club looking for €8m-€11million for the player. However, with just a year left on the American star’s contract the clubs interested will be aiming to sign the U.S international for a more realistic €4m-€5million. His Dutch club side do not want to sell as Heerenveen Director Yme Kuiper told the club’s official website, “Bradley is allowed to leave us, but only for a realistic transfer fee.”If that does not come along, it is better that he stays with us. Bradley is a good football player who can certainly be of value to us.”

Not many will be betting against Celtic in this one. Even Football Pools Pundit Tony Cascarino who correctly predicted the Bhoys draw with Dundee United last weekend has backed the reigning SPL champions to rediscover winning ways here.

The first weekend of the season was a great one with lots of good football and a few shocks along the way. However, there’s no shock I am top of the Football Pools Pundit’s table though to be fair we are all going to have good and bad weeks. Unfortunately Alan Hansen had a bad one but it could be me next week so I won’t gloat too much.
