In the last few weeks the wheels have well and truly come off Everton’s exciting season. A string of poor results has left them trailing in their Merseyside rivals wake. The home defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night even saw the players booed from the pitch by the Goodison Park faithful. Whilst Champions League football was the club’s target a few weeks ago, the loss of momentum could see David Moyes’ team end the season without even Uefa Cup qualification to show for their exploits.

Braveheart’s Bite Back: The Return of the Mac’s!

Rangers produced another superb European display in Lisbon to reach the Uefa Cup semi-finals last week. They overcame the odds once again to win 2-0 in Portugal. This result epitomised the recent upturn in Scottish fortunes both in club and international football. If you look at the improvements made in recent seasons it truly is a remarkable turnaround for the countrymen north of Hadrian’s Wall.

But while players, and managers, have a duty to turn out the performance of their lives, so do the officials. When a player fails to live up to the required standard, they run the likely risk of being substituted. Should that be the same for referees?

Neck and Neck in the 4th Place Race

After a dismal Uefa Cup performance on Thursday, Everton answered their critics by travelling to the Stadium of Light and leaving with all three points. The win was undoubtedly crucial after Liverpool had thrown down the gauntlet on Saturday, comfortably beating Newcastle 3-0. So with the pair separated by goal difference alone, who will come first in the fourth place race?

Is the Misfiring Gunners Season About to Implode?

Last season the Gunners  imploded in a 3-week spell as they crashed out of all 3 cup competitions and ended the season trophy-less. Arsenal lost to Chelsea in the Carling Cup final, were beaten in the FA Cup 5th round by Blackburn and were knocked out of the Champions League by Dutch side PSV.
