Birmingham v QPR: The Blues Have Rangers Jumping through Hoops?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

After getting off to a blinding start, it seems Birmingham’s attempts to re-enter the Premier League has stuttered ever so slightly. So can the Chelsea of the Championship cash in on the Blues dip in form?

Birmingham v Blackpool: No Sign of the Blues for Birmingham

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Birmingham remain undefeated in the Championship, a draw against Norwich the only blip on their radar. And it would seem there is very little threat on that barely blemished record here as the Blues face a team who last managed to defeat them away from home in December 1969. So that’s one step close the £225,000 Footy 15 jackpot!

Birmingham v Doncaster: Blues Back to Winning Ways?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Alex McLeish’s unbeaten Birmingham side entertain a Doncaster team this weekend that have only been beaten once in the Championship since winning promotion. The Blues are one of 5 sides that remain undefeated after four League games though they dropped their first points of the season at Norwich in their last game. They also lost 2-0 in the Carling Cup at Southampton prior to this so may not be as full of confidence as you’d expect.

Derby v Sheffield United: Another Ram Raid at Pride Park

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

It’s not been a welcome return to the Championship for Derby. Alongside Burnley, the Rams have scored the fewest league goals so far this term - one. And things aren’t all that likely to vastly improve here as their recent encounters with Sheffield United rarely amount to a goal rush. Alas who needs a goal rush when there’s a £200,000 jackpot on Footy 15 waiting to be won.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Nottingham Forest: The Forest is a Prime Hunting Ground for the Wolves

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Forest’s last win at Molineux came in the 1994 League Cup; a game in which Stuart Pearce scored twice. Their last league win though dates back to Boxing Day 1980. But with both teams having found winning ways already this season (and both entering into the game on the back of impressive league victories) we’re in for a closer fought, energetic tussle.

Sheffield Wednesday v Preston: Smiles All Round as Teams Pick Up a Point?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Talk about from one extreme to the other. Sheffield Wednesday went from an opening day high after their 4-1 defeat of Burnley to a ‘criminal’ performance leading to a 4-1 trouncing at the hands of Wolves a week later.

Nottingham Forest v Watford: Forest Get a Pinch of Championship Reality?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Having held their own against Premier League relegated Reading on the opening day of the Championship season, Forest succumbed 3-1 to their fellow League One promoted team Swansea last week. It was a nightmare time for Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith who handed Swansea the lead after he put into his own net. Despite equalising before half time, Forest could simply not match the strength of the Swans and spent much of the second 45 marching to the tune of the home side.

Ipswich v Wolves: Town Can’t Keep the Wolves From the Draw?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

This match should guarantee goals as both sides are free scoring but hardly watertight at the back. Wolves are the current top scorers in the division with 6 goals in two matches but also scored 3 goals in their Carling Cup match so averaging 3 goals a game. However, they’ve also conceded 5 goals in those matches.

Coventry v Bristol City: Robins to Rob a Point at the Ricoh Arena?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The Sky Blues have had a remarkable start to the new campaign seeing that they only escaped relegation by a single point last season.

Birmingham v Barnsley: McLeish’s Embarrassment of Riches Too Strong for Tykes?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Alex McLeish’s Birmingham side have had a 100% winning start to the new campaign whilst FA Cup semi-finalists Barnsley have lost all 3 of their games. This weekend the teams clash at St Andrew’s with the Blues firm favourites for obvious reasons.
