Manchester City v Liverpool: Reds Keane to Keep Up the Good Form

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Goals against Liverpool aren’t easy to come by especially for Manchester City. City have failed to score in their last six Premier League games against the Reds. In fact goals aren’t that much of a feature when these two sides meet; there have been just five goals in the last seven clashes - five have ended 1-0 and the other two have been 0-0 draws.

Middlesbrough v Manchester City: Boro Bag the Points as Sven’s City Reign Ends in Defeat?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Gareth Southgate has endured a difficult season and seemed destined to lose his job on a number of occasions but still he remains in charge at Boro. His counterpart this weekend seems destined to depart from Manchester City despite a season in which his team have never been out of the top 9 positions in the Premier League. As Jimmy Greaves once said “it’s a funny old game”.

Manchester City v Fulham: Cottagers Destined for the Drop After Defeat at Eastlands?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

It’s now or never time for the Cottagers, they remain 5 points adrift of safety with just 9 points to play for. Unfortunately, Fulham’s hopes of survival took a massive blow last weekend when they were well beaten at home by a weakened Liverpool side. Now they travel to face a revitalised Manchester City side aiming for their 3rd successive win on the bounce.

Can Manchester City’s FA Youth Cup Winners Become Senior Citizens?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Manchester City won the 2008 FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night by beating Chelsea 4-2 (on aggregate) over two legs. It was the sixth time the club had reached the final of this prestigious competition and only the 2nd time they’d actually won the trophy.

Sunderland v Manchester City: Is it a Four-Gone Conclusion the Black Cats will Win?

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Premier League safety looks assured for the Black Cats after 3 successive wins and now North-East bragging rights are on the agenda with just 2 points separating them from their black and white neighbours. The visit of a meandering Manchester City side who look for all purposes to be already packing for their summer holidays should see another 3 points for the home side at the Stadium of Light. Perhaps the Citizens will bump into the Tottenham squad who packed up and flew away to sunnier climes it seems several weeks ago.

Manchester City v Chelsea: Blues Blow City Away to Stay in Title Hunt?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Avram Grant’s next two matches could determine his Chelsea future as either defeat at City or failure to overcome Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in the Champions League 2nd leg could spell the end of his brief reign in charge. His side are performing in a very un-Chelsea like manner to what we’ve become accustomed to. They’re no longer the watertight, clean-sheet expecting Blues side we knew and grudgingly respected under Jose Mourinho. However, there’s still a chance of a Premier League and Champions League double and this weekend’s opponents Man City are approaching the last few games of the season in a similar fashion to Spurs, they’ve already packed up and gone on holiday.

Birmingham v Manchester City: A Stalemate is the Tale of These Two City’s?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Alex McLeish’s Blues side are beginning to slip ever closer to the bottom 3 after a run of just 1 win in their last 12 matches (5 defeats). They are also struggling with injuries and suspensions as £5million signing James McFadden is out for at least two more weeks and centre-half Liam Ridgewell is suspended for the next two games. Now Birmingham face a Manchester City side they’ve been beaten by the last 4 times they’ve faced them. It’s starting to look bleak for the Blues!

Bolton v Manchester City: The Trapdoor Looms for Trotters as Sven Eyes Highest City Premier League Finish?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

The Trotters have slipped into the relegation zone following a dismal run of 5 successive defeats. This weekend they face a Man City side that’ve beaten them twice already this season, the future of Bolton is beginning to look extremely grim.

Manchester City v Tottenham: Sven’s Season Going Up in Smoke as Spurs Start to Climb?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

There is a 10-point gap between these two sides but with City starting to struggle and Spurs reinvigorated under Ramos it would be no surprise if that gap begins to close. It seems a very long time ago since Sven’s side were beating all-comers at Eastlands but it’s worth remembering it was Spurs who were the first team to win there this season, albeit in the Carling Cup.

Reading v Manchester City: Citizens Slip Up as the Royals Resurgence Continues?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Reading finally ended an horrific losing run of 8 consecutive League matches last weekend with a late winner at Middlesbrough. Those 3 points should give the Royals real impetus to beat the drop despite remaining in 18th place in the Premier League.
