Gary Johnson’s Bristol City side have begun the new campaign how they performed for the majority of the last, by winning. The Robins won their opening League match at Blackpool and their Carling Cup home clash with Peterborough to show the aren’t suffering from a Play-off final hangover. Johnson’s counterpart Paul Jewell finally picked up a victory as Derby manager in midweek but even that success was only achieved in extra-time against League Two Lincoln.

Once again the destination of the Championship title looks extremely difficult to predict with a number of clubs in with a good shout. There’s the likes of Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford who all reached the play-offs last season though the impact of getting so close to promotion could have a negative affect on the players.

Do you really need any advice on who to back in this Premier 10 match? I seriously doubt it but I’ll give you my opinion anyway. It’s my job after all. Does anyone think that the relegated Rams can shock the Premier League and beat Arsene Wenger’s young guns? The answer in all likelihood is no. The worst side in Premier League history entertains a wounded Arsenal side determined to end the season on a relative high. It all points to yet another dismal Derby defeat this weekend.

The relegated Rams have been a godsend to Premier 10 players this season as they’ve been beaten almost every week and this looks set to be yet another defeat. The Villans returned to form in emphatic style last weekend with a 4-0 thrashing of Bolton after a barren 5-match winless run (3 defeats). I hate to say it Rams fans but once again, Derby face another disappointing weekend defeat.

The bottom side may have picked up some pride following their 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United but unfortunately like most weekends, they still lost. Despite travelling to a misfiring but defensively solid Boro side this Saturday, Premier 10 players should expect the same result if they want to win the £18,500 jackpot on offer.

I doubt anyone will need advice for this one but seeing as I’ve previewed all the other games, it would be rude to ignore this one don’t you think? This Premier 10 fixture seems to be a case of how many United will win by more so than whether they will win. After all, there is nothing like a United side scorned!

Paul Jewell returns to his old club this weekend with his new side firmly rooted at the foot at the Premier League table. Despite signing 8 players during the transfer window results have only marginally improved as the rock bottom Rams remain 13 points adrift of safety. This weekends visit to the JJB offers the possibility of 3 points but after losing at home to the Latics back in January there seems little chance of that.

The battle for the Premier League title has become a 3-horse race as Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea fight it out but it’s the bottom of the table where an exciting battle for survival is really heating up. With just 13 games to go, the importance of points to the clubs on the brink of relegation intensifies and with it the potential for shock results. Something Premier 10 players need to be aware of. We all recall West Brom’s dramatic escape in 2004/05, bottom at Xmas but shock results such as draws at Old Trafford and White Hart Lane led to their survival. We can all recall the happy Hammers winning at Manchester United on the final day last season to ensure their Premier League status despite playing more like hapless Hammers for most of the season.

Tottenham thrashed the rock bottom Rams 4-0 back in August in what turned out to be Martin Jol’s last Premier League victory in charge at White Hart Lane. This weekend Spurs under the tutelage of Juande Ramos visit Pride Park with the opportunity to do a ‘League double’ over Derby. On paper there seems to be a very good chance of that very outcome, however, Spurs have only beaten the Rams home and away in one season in their history, the 1990/91 season. This is despite the clubs meeting on 63 previous occasions; perhaps this match isn’t as much of a foregone conclusion as you would expect.

Birmingham have won last 3 meetings between these clubs home and away but it is the Blues home form against the Rams that should have Paul Jewell worried. Derby have won once at St Andrews’ in almost 60 years, that’s 1 win in the last 20 League visits. The Rams last won at St Andrews’ in November 1995, the Bald Eagle Jim Smith was in charge of a 4-1 win. The club have had a total of 6 permanent managers and 4 caretaker managers since that win.
