Manchester United’s new £30m man Dimitar Berbatov made his second appearance for the Red Devils at the weekend but once again failed to impress. He has been widely tipped to be a huge success at Old Trafford but after lacklustre displays in huge games against Liverpool and Chelsea a few questions are being asked.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is set to make his Tottenham debut this weekend following his £13.8m move from Spartak Moscow. His arrival in the Premier League was overshadowed by the departure of Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and Manchester City’s capture of Robinho. It would seem that little has been reported of the Russian Euro 2008 star. However, two of his new club team-mates saw first hand what a handful he can be this week.

Reports today suggest Manchester City are set to rival Manchester United with a bid for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian has been a long-term target for Sir Alex Ferguson but after a public spat between the clubs the door has been opened for the former Bayer Leverkusen man to join his international team-mate and friend Martin Petrov at Eastlands.

Tottenham target Roman Pavlyuchenko has openly admitted that a move to England would be a ‘big problem’ for the Russian star. He has been linked to White Hart Lane since Euro 2008 and was widely expected to join Andrei Arshavin in North London as the pairing to replace Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov. However, with the transfer deadline weeks away a move looks unlikely.

Tottenham are expected to splash the cash following the sale of star striker and Vice-Captain Robbie Keane to Liverpool this week with a number of strikers on Juande Ramos’ radar. However, with rumours of moves for the likes of David Villa, Samuel Eto’o and Andrei Arshavin sounding slightly ambitious, the signing of the Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko doesn’t.

Emmanuel Adebayor looks destined to leave the Emirates this summer and Arsenal are reported to be deep in negotiations to sign Cameroonian international Samuel Eto’o as his replacement as well as receive £15m in the deal. Many have argued the Togolese man mountain’s departure would be a huge loss to the club but surely if he is replaced by the Barcelona forward this would be a huge coup for the Gunners.

Reports in the weekend’s press suggest Liverpool are chasing Tottenham’s talismanic Irishman Robbie Keane this summer. The 27-year-old striker has been at Spurs for close to 6 years and has proven himself to be a huge fans favourite. Whereas his strike partner Dimitar Berbatov has been linked away from the club for the past season, this speculation over Keane’s future is a new development and one you’d expect the club not to welcome. After all, of these two forwards I would wager the majority of Spurs fans would prefer to keep their club Vice-Captain rather than the sulky, whinging Bulgarian.
