Bluebirds better suited for Disney not Europe

Monday, April 7th, 2008

My congratulations to Portsmouth and Cardiff City for reaching the final of this season’s FA Cup. The end of ‘Big Four’ cup dominance has seemingly been a long time coming; 13 years to be exact (and 28 years for a winner outside the top flight). But while this season’s cup events are great in the romantic stakes, in reality is such a final good for the game?

Premier 10 Minute by Minute Review - March 8th & 9th

Monday, March 10th, 2008

This was a great weekend for the neutrals but one to forget for Premier 10 players as there were shocks galore particularly in the FA Cup 6th round games. There was a £12,500 jackpot up for grabs but unsurprisingly no-one got all ten games correct as the big guns crashed out of the cup and the Premier League strugglers picked up rare points. However, every cloud has a silver lining as next week’s Premier 10 rollover now stands at a whopping £15,500 so get predicting for your chance to win big cash!

Granted, talks of the quadruple are just a distant memory but should Avram really face the sack?

Barnsley v Chelsea: No More Fairytales for Barnsley as Blues Bring Reality to Oakwell?

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The Tykes FA Cup adventure should come to an end this weekend when they entertain the revitalised Chelsea juggernaut. If the win at Anfield in the last round was the stuff of fairytales then expect the Blues to bring Barnsley back to earth with a huge dose of reality at Oakwell.

Premier 10 Minute by Minute Review - Feb 16th & 17th

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Here’s your guide to the Premier 10 minute by minute goal action from the weekend when Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup at home to Championship side Barnsley and United gave Arsenal a 4-goal beating. Not surprisingly no one got all 10 selections correct as there were a few shock results, none bigger than the Reds humbling at the hands on the Tykes at Anfield.

Ronaldo Vs Adebayor – Who Would You Prefer In Your Side?

Friday, February 15th, 2008

The top 2 performers in the Premier League meet this weekend at Old Trafford as United take on Arsenal in the FA Cup 5th round. But if you had a choice of either Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese twinkled-toed poser or Emmanuel Adebayor, the Togolese Kanu with strength and goal scoring ability, who would you go for?

Coventry v West Brom - Sky Blues Sunk by Bouncing Baggies?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

The two League meetings between these two sides this season have been high scoring affairs with 10 goals scored. The Baggies won 4-0 at the Ricoh Arena in November but surprisingly lost 4-2 at home just a month later. However, things aren’t looking so good for the Sky Blues after the dismissal of their manager Iain Dowie and they’ve dropped to a perilous 19th in the Championship.

Chelsea v Huddersfield - Blues Still on Course to Retain the Cup?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

If there was ever a home banker in the Premier 10 fixture list, this is it. I doubt you’ll need too much advice on this one but here’s some anyway. The Blues are still in contention for 4 major trophies, not lost at home since the old king died, have all their stars returning fit and available and are the current FA Cup holders. On paper this could be a bad day out at the Bridge for Huddersfield.

Cardiff v Wolves - Bluebirds End 81 Year Wait for 6th Round Appearance?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Wolves won 3-2 at Ninian Park back in October but don’t expect Wolves to devour the Bluebirds again. This is the first FA Cup encounter between these two sides in 87 years and Cardiff are aiming to reach the 6th round for first time since they won the cup in 1927. The Welsh side became the only side from outside England to ever win the prestigious trophy.

Bristol Rovers v Southampton - Rovers in 6th Round for First Time in 50 Years?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

These sides have not faced each other in 27 years since Saints beat Rovers in the FA Cup 4th round at the Dell. The Pirates did manage to beat Southampton 2-0 in the only previous FA Cup encounter hosted by Rovers back in 1978.
