West Ham Start their Summer ‘Spring Clean’ - Who’s Out First?
Friday, May 30th, 2008
And the answer is…Anton Ferdinand. Rio’s less successful brother has continued to struggle to impress his manager, Alan Curbishley, who is now happy to sell the defender for around the £5m mark as he begins his wage cut cull.
It’s been a mixed season for Ferdinand who made just 25 appearances for the Hammers, helping them to just 4 cleansheets. At the beginning of February, the London-born defender described his performances as better than ever despite the Hammers losing their then latest game against Wigan; five games later Ferdinand was amongst many players heavily criticised following their three consecutive 4-0 defeats. Ferdinand, himself, was labelled by critics as displaying rather inept performances.
So how do Hammers fans feel about this departure and who fancies taking Ferdinand on their books? And with it now common knowledge that Curbishley has to cut wage costs, which other Hammers are going to catch the eye of buyers and which would you be happy to left go? Perhaps the lure of cold hard cash would even be enough for Curbishley to let Ashton go…
