Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic: Is this just the fixture to kick start Tottenham’s season?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

What has happened to Spurs? The Ramos Revolution that even some of the fiercest critics believed to be on the cards has choked and spluttered its way through August and September. But all this is delight to Latic ears for Wigan have never beaten Spurs in the Premier League. So can they capitalised on this, Spurs’ worst start to a season since losing all four opening matches in 1974-75 and break their White Hart Lane duck?

Hull v Wigan: Tigers On The Prowl For More Points

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Two competitions and two very different stories for the Latics and the Tigers. This week saw the second round of the League Cup and the introduction of the Premier League teams (which the obvious exception of those who made Europe). But while Phil Brown’s Hull have taken to the top flight like the proverbial duck to water, their activity in the League Cup have already been cut short. Meanwhile Wigan, still without a point in their league campaign soared through their Carling Cup match winning 4-0 against Notts County.

Wigan v Chelsea: No Slip Ups Here as Chelsea Make Up for Last Season?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

If Scolari’s team really are, as Fergie said not so long ago, too old, then we should all look forward to our twilight years! Chelsea were mightily impressive in their first League game under Luiz Felipe Scolari with goals flying in from all over the place; Joe Cole, Anelka, Lampard and Premier League debutant Deco providing the ammunition and with it a stern warning to their number one rivals to the crown.

West Ham v Wigan: Away Team to Prevail Once More?

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Alan Curbishley’s injuries woes of last season seem to have followed him into the 2008/09 one. Having seen much of last season from the stands, Craig Bellamy finally looked set to make his mark in a Hammers jersey…only to limp off in pre-season with a hamstring strain. The Welsh striker will now reclaim his stadium seat until mid-September. And the injury train doesn’t stop there with Anton Ferdinand looking doubtful for the opening game with a hamstring problem of his own.

Wigan v Manchester United: Bruce to Upset Old Manager Fergie?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

One win and Manchester United will claim their tenth Premier League title (unless Chelsea get a cricket score against Bolton!). The odds look good. United have never dropped a point against Wigan in their history. That’s right, not a single point. Job’s a good ‘un then, right? Oh I do hope that doesn’t jinx them!

Aston Villa v Wigan: Villa Set to Steal Fifth from Everton

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Villa’s draw with Everton last weekend means the race for fifth place is still well and truly on with Martin O’Neill’s in an excellent position. They may be trailing Everton; they may have missed the opportunity to grab that only European place by the neck but their two remaining fixtures are, on paper, considerably easier than Everton’s and they’d really fancy their chances in this encounter with Wigan.

Wigan v Reading: Steve’s Royals Cop a Load as Wigan’s Run Remains?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Historically speaking (and we all know history can sometimes be the decisive factor in games), this fixture couldn’t be harder to call. Thirteen wins apiece and 7 draws in all their league meetings, not even a slither of daylight separates the Latics and the Royals. However a quick look at the league table and past couple of results and this tie appears far from daunting.

Wigan v Tottenham: Bruce Bags Juan Point from Clash with Stuttering Spurs?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

The Latics are 6 points clear of the relegation zone but of all the sides in the current bottom six, it’s Steve Bruce’s Wigan who look both the strongest and the most consistent. After grabbing a shock 1-1 draw at Chelsea in their last match they’ll be full of confidence to entertain the visit of the season’s biggest underachievers, Juande Ramos’ Tottenham. However, if Bruce wants all 3 points, he’ll have to do something that no Wigan manager has ever done, beat the enigma that is Spurs.

Chelsea v Wigan: Title Chasing Chelsea Bridging the Gap?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Avram Grant’s side have now cut United’s lead at the top of the table to just 3 points and with the Red Devils set to visit fortress Stamford Bridge in the final few weeks of the season the title race is wide open. This match will affect both ends of the table but with the League leaders in Chelsea’s sights it’s hard to look beyond a home win on Premier 10 this weekend.

Portsmouth v Wigan: Pompey Pick up the Points?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

An under strength Pompey side lost 2-0 at Tottenham last weekend after losing 6 players to injury and suspension. However, this week Premier 10 players should note that Harry Redknapp should welcome back both Jermain Defoe and Sol Campbell to the starting line-up which should boost their hopes of a victory over relegation threatened Wigan.
