Everton v Newcastle United: Home Sweet Home for the Toffees?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Only Southampton (9) have lost more often at Goodison Park in the Premier League era than Newcastle United. Just what the Toon Army wants to hear at this current time. But Goodison can hardly be called a fortress so far this season; Blackburn, Portsmouth and Liverpool have each left with all three points. So can Newcastle now with a tad more stability following the interim appointment of Joe Kinnear follow suit, rewrite history and rediscover their top flight feet?

West Ham United v Newcastle United: Newcastle Dealt another Hammer Blow

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Two teams at the centre of managerial controversy but while the waters at West Ham have stilled, waves are still crashing over St James’ Park. So can a fixture that historically favours the men in black and white offer a beacon of light to guide the Toon back to normality?

Newcastle v Hull: Tigers Feast on Magpies Misery?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Cast your mind back 17 years. West and East Germany agrees to merge currency and economies, the Three Tenors sing together for the first time at the 1990 World Cup, the first known World Wide Web page is written and Newcastle last played Hull in the league. The latter may not sound much of a highlight but it was certainly good (at the time) for Hull who won both games 2-1. They were though relegated come May!

Owen and Martins Linked with Moves Away from Newcastle But who is King Kev Bringing in?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

The usual summer merry go round rumour mill is in full effect but unlike past seasons more players are being linked with expensive moves away from St James’ than arriving.

Everton v Newcastle: Toffees to Take a Point Which Guarantees them European Football Next Season?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

This match will decide whether the Toffees campaign ends in success or failure as 5th spot and a Uefa Cup place hangs in the balance. Despite looking set to compete with local neighbours Liverpool for a Champions League spot for much of the season Everton’s form has dropped since mid-March and a defeat in this match and a Villa win would see them miss out on Europe altogether. They face a revitalised Newcastle side this weekend whose confidence may have dipped slightly following their home defeat to Chelsea ending a 7-match unbeaten run.

Newcastle v Chelsea: Blues in Title Slip up at St James’ as Toon Take a Point?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Chelsea’s charge towards both the Champions League and the Premier League title is in full effect as they’ve steamrollered the opposition in recent weeks. However, despite their winning run, Premier 10 players should be cautious as Avram Grant’s side will be facing a Newcastle side both in top form and with a superb recent home League record against the Blues.

West Ham v Newcastle: King Kev to Continue the Toon’s Recent Dominance Over the Irons?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

King Kev’s Toon revival is building more momentum week on week so it’s a shame really that their season is nearing its end. The Hammers on the other hand have been waiting for the season to finish for weeks now as they have little to play for compared to their usual exciting end of season finales. On paper this Premier 10 match looks relatively even, however, Newcastle’s recent form and head to head superiority should give them the edge.

Newcastle v Sunderland: King Kev to Maintain his Unbeaten Tyne-Wear Derby Record?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

It’s been 11 years since Special K competed in a Tyne-Wear derby and if he still possesses any of his old luck in this fixture then Roy Keane’s Sunderland could be in trouble. Newcastle were unbeaten against the Black Cats in Kevin Keegan’s first reign in charge. His record reads played 5, won 4 and drew 1. Each of his four wins came by a 1-goal margin and on current form this should be another closely contested Premier 10 encounter.

Portsmouth v Newcastle: Harry to Show the Toon what they’re Missing?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Kevin Keegan may be flavour of the month on Tyneside again after leading Newcastle to 3 successive League wins but this weekend he’ll come face to face with the manager who was Mike Ashley’s first choice for the Toon managerial position. Harry Redknapp’s decision to stay at Fratton Park has paid off handsomely, not only has he led Portsmouth to the FA Cup final but his side are also flying high in 6th place in the Premier League, hot on the heels of Everton.

Newcastle v Reading: King Kev Starting to Call the Toon at St James’?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Kevin Keegan’s second coming on Tyneside has finally started to click into gear after back to back wins over Fulham and Spurs. The doom and gloom surrounding St James’ has lifted and the Toon’s wide-eyed belief in the man they dubbed ‘Special K’ has returned in full force. The widespread relief that King Kev’s winless run has ended has now been replaced with expectation as Newcastle attempt to record their third win in a row. This weekend, Premier 10 players need to judge whether the newly-found Toon confidence will be enough to dispose of an ever improving Reading side.
