Manchester City are rumoured to be tracking one of the hottest young talents in world football, the Argentine striker Sergio Aguero. After splashing out in excess of £30m on Robinho on the last day of the transfer window City’s new owners have shown they have the financial muscle to compete for the best players in the world. The Atletico Madrid man has been linked to a number of Premier League clubs over the summer with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal reported to be interested.

For me, too much has been written about how great Manchester City’s record £32.5m Brazilian signing is. People would think Robinho was Ronaldinho the way he has been hyped up in the past week but in my opinion he is well overrated. I don’t remember him being a huge hit at Real Madrid though he did have his moments. In fact, the lad was a substitute for long periods in Spain so I wouldn’t expect too much of him.

To be honest it may be September but I can’t wait till Christmas as I want to see how much Mark Hughes has to spend in his little Christmas kitty. I was amazed when I was told that Manchester City made five separate bids of over £30million for five different players on transfer deadline day. That’s incredible enough, but for me no-one has talked about the fact for the first time Chelsea were out-battled in a transfer over an amount of money!

Press reports suggest that Juande Ramos is targeting the highly rated Colombian striking sensation Radamel Falcao Garcia Zarate or plain old ‘Falcao’ as he’s usually known. The talented 22-year-old currently plies his trade for River Plate in Argentina but may well be playing in the Premier League this season if Tottenham get their way. The Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko looks set to sign in the next few days but he may not be alone as the club attempt to bring in an entire new strikeforce.

As the money-orientated Premier League continues to invest in big money, big name signings fewer and fewer young players are progressing from the academies into the various first teams. The halcyon period when Manchester United’s ‘golden generation’ of the Neville brothers, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt all progressed into the Red Devils side seems a long time ago with very few kids making the grade since.
