Goals against Liverpool aren’t easy to come by especially for Manchester City. City have failed to score in their last six Premier League games against the Reds. In fact goals aren’t that much of a feature when these two sides meet; there have been just five goals in the last seven clashes - five have ended 1-0 and the other two have been 0-0 draws.

Moneybags Manchester City make the short trip to Wigan this weekend hoping to end a poor run of form against the Latics. City will be fresh and full of confidence from hammering 6 past Portsmouth last weekend and will be hoping their Samba stars can end their Wigan jinx. However, the Latics are slowly proving themselves to be one of the dark horses of the division, a far cry from last season’s relegation worries.

The Manchester City revolution tripped on the first hurdle last weekend and there were some critics (including one or two of our podcasters!) who weren’t the least bit surprised. As we all are very much aware, with money comes expectation and with the amount of money accessible to City, that expectation is mammoth. So winning is priority even more so now.

Big Phil Scolari takes his unbeaten Chelsea side to Eastlands this weekend to face the team that is expected to take their crown as the biggest spenders in English football. The optimism surrounding the Blue side of Manchester is sky high with £32.5m man Robinho expected to make his debut against the team he was expected to be signing for on deadline day. However, on the pitch it’s the away side that has been by far the most dominant force in these encounters.

This weekend my old team Liverpool face a huge encounter with Manchester United which brings back many great memories for me. When I was a player it wasn’t the Red Devils that were our main rivals as we had numerous big games against those clubs that challenged us for the title at the time such as local rivals Everton, Leeds and Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest. However, matches with Manchester United were still huge affairs.

However, with the same four clubs firmly entrenched in the Champions League spots it is difficult to see which team will make way for City.
