Manchester City v Portsmouth: Pompey to be the first victims to the new look Man City?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The Manchester City revolution tripped on the first hurdle last weekend and there were some critics (including one or two of our podcasters!) who weren’t the least bit surprised. As we all are very much aware, with money comes expectation and with the amount of money accessible to City, that expectation is mammoth. So winning is priority even more so now.

Portsmouth v Middlesbrough: Pompey’s Home Plight Picks up a Gear

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

There weren’t many that predicted such a hefty win for Portsmouth against Everton two weeks ago. Suppose that when faced with a team outside the ‘top four’ Portsmouth can more than hold their own. That said, they haven’t managed to really do that against Middlesbrough in recent times

Portsmouth v Manchester United: Community Shield Replay Ends With Another United Triumph?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

You can’t help feeling a little bit sorry for the current FA Cup champions. I mean how unlucky it is to face Chelsea and then Manchester United in your opening two games of the season! But while Chelsea stuck an impressive four past them, few expect them to concede anywhere near as many.

Portsmouth v Fulham: A Fighting Fulham Perfectly Mimic the Great Escape?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Fulham’s destiny - yes the corny clichés are coming out in abundance on this appropriately dubbed Judgement Day - is ultimately in their own hands. Great results against Reading, Manchester City and Birmingham saw Fulham move out of the drop zone for the first time since Boxing Day. Question is can they pull out all the stops for one final time?

Middlesbrough v Portsmouth: FA Cup Focus Paves an Opening for Boro?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

From recent results - two defeats and a draw from their last three - it would appear that Portsmouth have a dose of end-of-season syndrome. Now 7th in the league, Europe via 5th spot is near on impossible so time and effort is better spent conserving energy for their trip to Wembley.

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

You know the score - as the end of the season approaches and hopes and challenges fade, more and more games, in all honesty, appear a little meaningless. However throw in a potential last gasp dash for fifth place for one team and a threat on the manager’s head for the other and the game is far from futile.

Portsmouth v Newcastle: Harry to Show the Toon what they’re Missing?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Kevin Keegan may be flavour of the month on Tyneside again after leading Newcastle to 3 successive League wins but this weekend he’ll come face to face with the manager who was Mike Ashley’s first choice for the Toon managerial position. Harry Redknapp’s decision to stay at Fratton Park has paid off handsomely, not only has he led Portsmouth to the FA Cup final but his side are also flying high in 6th place in the Premier League, hot on the heels of Everton.

West Brom v Portsmouth: Pompey Play up to Reach the Final as Baggies Blow it?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

The top scorers in the country take on the FA Cup favourites at Wembley this weekend with Premier 10 players well aware of the potential for giant killings in this season’s competition. West Brom lie 18 places behind Portsmouth in the English Football League but after so many cup upsets this season, this could be a much tighter match than many would expect.

Portsmouth v Wigan: Pompey Pick up the Points?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

An under strength Pompey side lost 2-0 at Tottenham last weekend after losing 6 players to injury and suspension. However, this week Premier 10 players should note that Harry Redknapp should welcome back both Jermain Defoe and Sol Campbell to the starting line-up which should boost their hopes of a victory over relegation threatened Wigan.
