Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Once again the destination of the Championship title looks extremely difficult to predict with a number of clubs in with a good shout. There’s the likes of Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford who all reached the play-offs last season though the impact of getting so close to promotion could have a negative affect on the players.

Chelsea Midfield Star in High Demand: Manchester City, Aston Villa, West Ham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Fulham, Everton & Blackburn all in the Hunt!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Chelsea’s 25-year-old midfielder Steve Sidwell is attracting interest from almost half the teams in the Premier League despite a non-event of a first season at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old free transfer signing looks set to be cut from the Blues playing staff next season whichever manager is brought in.

Derby v Reading: The Rams Worst Ever Premier League Season to End in a Right Royal Defeat?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

After last weekend’s defeat at Blackburn, the Rams have been crowned as officially the worst Premier League team of all time. Their embarrassing campaign will draw to a close with a home match against a Reading team who may be joining them in the Championship next season. The question Premier 10 players must ask themselves is whether a Royals team without a win in 6 matches is good enough to beat the Premier League whipping boys.

Bolton, Birmingham, Reading or Fulham – Relegation Beckons But For Which Two

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

The end of the season is nigh and what’s great is competition is still rife in all areas of the league. So with this in mind from now until D-Day, Judgement Day, Silverware Sunday - or whatever appropriately titled pun Sky Sports creatively(!) come up with - I am sticking my neck on the line (after looking at the stats mind) and predicting who’ll go down, who’ll lift the trophy and who’ll nap fifth place. Today - it’s the R word.

Reading v Tottenham: Spurs are Already Luka-ing to the Future But are the Royals Staring at Relegation?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The Royals are the last of the recent list of current relegation strugglers to face a Tottenham side who look like they’re already dreaming of a summer on the beach. Spurs have faced the likes of Middlesbrough, Wigan and Bolton in the last 3 games without winning or losing to any of them. Therefore, Premier 10 players should expect a similar outcome from the trip to the Madejski Stadium this weekend.

Wigan v Reading: Steve’s Royals Cop a Load as Wigan’s Run Remains?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Historically speaking (and we all know history can sometimes be the decisive factor in games), this fixture couldn’t be harder to call. Thirteen wins apiece and 7 draws in all their league meetings, not even a slither of daylight separates the Latics and the Royals. However a quick look at the league table and past couple of results and this tie appears far from daunting.

The Pools Poll: Birmingham, Bolton or some other poor soul - who’ll be relegated?

Monday, April 21st, 2008

While Bolton fans rejoice, Birmingham followers start to sweat. A great win for the Trotters away to Middlesbrough on Saturday sees them move out of the bottom 3 to be replaced by Birmingham after a nightmare derby day defeat. And with Reading, Boro, Wigan and Sunderland still not 100% sure of safety, we’re asking…..

Arsenal v Reading: Gunners Gain Lost Confidence from Royals Rout?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Arsene Wenger’s young guns have seen their season of glory ended after defeats at both Anfield and Old Trafford in the space of 5 days. This weekend they entertain a Royals side who have been slowly dragged back into the relegation scrap and who possess an abysmal historic record against the North Londoners.

Reading v Fulham: More Misery for Cottagers at the Madejski?

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

The Royals recent excellent run was ended by an emphatic 3-0 defeat at Newcastle last weekend but the visit of Fulham is a chance for Steve Coppell’s men to maintain or build on the current gap between themselves and 3rd from bottom Bolton. It’s a case of now or never for the Cottagers to not only end their 19-month winless away run but also to launch a late survival bid.

Newcastle v Reading: King Kev Starting to Call the Toon at St James’?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Kevin Keegan’s second coming on Tyneside has finally started to click into gear after back to back wins over Fulham and Spurs. The doom and gloom surrounding St James’ has lifted and the Toon’s wide-eyed belief in the man they dubbed ‘Special K’ has returned in full force. The widespread relief that King Kev’s winless run has ended has now been replaced with expectation as Newcastle attempt to record their third win in a row. This weekend, Premier 10 players need to judge whether the newly-found Toon confidence will be enough to dispose of an ever improving Reading side.
