I was pleased to see Robbie Keane grab his first Premier League goals for Liverpool at the weekend which will do his confidence a world of good. He hasn’t been prolific since joining the club but for me, he has been playing well for the team. His work-rate is tremendous but as he’ll know himself, all top strikers are judged on the amount of goals they score.

It’s now nine appearances (7 starts) in a Liverpool shirt for Robbie Keane without a goal and the pressure continues to mount on the £20m summer signing. His former international team-mate and Football Pools Pundit Tony Cascarino feels that the much heralded partnership between Keane and Fernando Torres may not suit the former Tottenham striker’s game. Cascarino had this to say, “I’m also not convinced about his (Torres) partnership with Robbie Keane. The lad is struggling at the moment. In fact, he looks a little bit lost and unsure of where he’s supposed to playing in this Liverpool side.”

Tottenham target Roman Pavlyuchenko has openly admitted that a move to England would be a ‘big problem’ for the Russian star. He has been linked to White Hart Lane since Euro 2008 and was widely expected to join Andrei Arshavin in North London as the pairing to replace Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov. However, with the transfer deadline weeks away a move looks unlikely.

Various press reports suggest Tottenham are about to more than make up for the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool with the acquisitions of both Blackburn winger David Bentley and Russian Euro 2008 star Andrei Arshavin.

Tottenham are expected to splash the cash following the sale of star striker and Vice-Captain Robbie Keane to Liverpool this week with a number of strikers on Juande Ramos’ radar. However, with rumours of moves for the likes of David Villa, Samuel Eto’o and Andrei Arshavin sounding slightly ambitious, the signing of the Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko doesn’t.

Rafa Benitez has added more fuel to the fire concerning the arrival of ‘big name’ signings to Anfield with Robbie Keane one of a number of players reportedly targeted. He’s dismissed the potential signing of Valencia’s David Villa as someone the club has looked at but “at this moment, not our target”. However, he stressed that the Reds had been in contact with Tottenham over the Irish Captain’s availability and that the club are “still working” on a possible move.

Rafa Benitez is reportedly attempting to sign two proven Premier League performers this summer in the shape of Tottenham’s Robbie Keane and Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry.
This is a change in the general transfer policy of the Spaniard since joining the club as he’s generally targeted foreign talent rather than British and Irish.

Reports in the weekend’s press suggest Liverpool are chasing Tottenham’s talismanic Irishman Robbie Keane this summer. The 27-year-old striker has been at Spurs for close to 6 years and has proven himself to be a huge fans favourite. Whereas his strike partner Dimitar Berbatov has been linked away from the club for the past season, this speculation over Keane’s future is a new development and one you’d expect the club not to welcome. After all, of these two forwards I would wager the majority of Spurs fans would prefer to keep their club Vice-Captain rather than the sulky, whinging Bulgarian.
