Blackburn v Fulham: No Luck for Roy at the Rovers?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Roy Hodgson’s brave gamble of bringing in 5 new faces in the transfer window to boost Fulham’s survival chances seems to have failed as the Cottagers have now slumped to 3 straight defeats and now lie 6 points adrift of safety. This weekend he visits his former club Blackburn in what looks like a Premier 10 home banker.

FULHAM v ASTON VILLA - ROY’S NEW BOYS VANQUISHED BY THE VILLANS?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Roy Hodgson has been a busy boy in the transfer market and is pinning all his survival hopes on Scandinavian footballers by the look of it. The Cottagers have secured the signings of Danish midfielder/defender Leon Andreasen, towering Norwegian centre-half Brede Hangeland and his fellow compatriot striker Erik Nevland. There has been little transfer activity at Villa Park as Martin O’Neill looks set to sell rather than buy despite possessing the smallest squad in the Premier League.

Bolton v Fulham - No Relief for Roy at the Reebok?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Two of the Premier League’s home-grown manager’s clash in this relegation 6-pointer between Gary’s Megson’s Bolton and Roy Hodgson’s Fulham at the Reebok Stadium this Tuesday. The Cottagers face an uphill task to survive this season as they lie in 19th position, 5 points adrift from those outside the relegation zone. If you throw in an appalling 16-month run without an away win and it is not hard to see where most of the trouble lies. The Trotters have also struggled away from home this season and have yet to pick up all 3 points on their travels. Luckily for Gary, they are playing this match at the Reebok.

FULHAM v ARSENAL - MORE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR FREE-FALLING FULHAM?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

The Cottagers take on the high-flying Gunners this weekend in what is Roy Hodgson’s 3rd London derby in 3 Premier League matches as Fulham boss. At least he hasn’t had to do much travelling so far in 2008. If defeats against Chelsea (H) and West Ham (A) were expected, then a visit from Arsenal is certainly not one for Fulham fans to relish. The Gunners have a superb record against the Cottagers with just 1 defeat in the last 17 encounters between the sides (14 wins). Fulham won the last encounter at Craven Cottage 2-1 last season; this result ended a 40-year wait for a win against their North London rivals. The Cottagers were close to repeating that feat at the Emirates on the opening day of this season after leading for 84 minutes through a David Healy 1st minute goal only to lose the match due to a Van Persie penalty and an injury time Hleb goal. That result sums up Fulham’s season so far, they have won only 1 of the 11 League games in which they have scored first and ended up losing 5 of those matches.

WEST HAM v FULHAM - NO JOY FOR NEW-BOY ROY AT UPTON PARK?

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Roy Hodgson takes his new side across London to face an inconsistent West Ham side at Upton Park this Saturday. However, Roy shouldn’t expect too much as the Hammers haven’t lost a League match against Fulham for 7 years, since a 2-0 home defeat in November 2001. The chances of a point apiece are high with 3 of the last 5 encounters drawn and both sides struggling to find consistency.

FULHAM v CHELSEA - NO DERBY JOY FOR NEW BOY ROY?

Monday, December 31st, 2007

The South-West London rivals meet at Craven Cottage on New Years Day with Roy Hodgson taking charge of Fulham for the first time. After a surprising battling performance at Birmingham the Cottagers will start 2008 in good spirits after all it was their first point on the road since October. Avram Grant is facing a hard New Year with a mounting injury list and the departure of several key members of the squad for the African Cup of Nations.
