Everton v Newcastle United: Home Sweet Home for the Toffees?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Only Southampton (9) have lost more often at Goodison Park in the Premier League era than Newcastle United. Just what the Toon Army wants to hear at this current time. But Goodison can hardly be called a fortress so far this season; Blackburn, Portsmouth and Liverpool have each left with all three points. So can Newcastle now with a tad more stability following the interim appointment of Joe Kinnear follow suit, rewrite history and rediscover their top flight feet?

Stoke v Everton: A Stroke of Luck at Stoke as the Potters Clay-m a Point

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Quiet in the transfer window, can Everton make more noise as they make their way down to Stoke? Well, according to the history, albeit 24 years since the two last met, the answer to that is a big loud yes!

Everton Set to Spend £20Million on Brazilian Hitman and Russian Playmaker

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

David Moyes is set to sign a new 5-year contract at Everton with the promise that funds are available to further strengthen the Toffees squad. The club have been heavily linked to Zenit St Petersburg playmaker and Russian Captain Andrei Arshavan in recent weeks and now a new name has been added to the list… João Alves de Assis Silva or Jo for short.

Lee Carsley Leaves Everton as they Bid for Former Liverpool World Cup Finalist

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Long serving Everton midfielder Lee Carsley has left the club on a free transfer with West Brom, Derby and Birmingham reportedly vying for his services. His absence will leave a hole in an already small squad at Goodison. Phil Neville could quite easily slip into the 34-year-old’s boots as the midfield enforcer but reports suggest David Moyes may be targeting an ex-Liverpool player for that role.

Who Does David Moyes Need to Sign for Everton to Break into the Big Four?

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

The Toffees enjoyed a superb campaign which ended in European qualification via the Uefa Cup but could so easily have ended with them in next season’s Champions League. If not for some diabolical refereeing decisions, injuries to key men and a general lack of depth in the Everton squad the Toffees may well have replaced Liverpool in Europe’s Premier cup competiton. But which areas does David Moyes need to strengthen to finally break the big four’s Premier League monopoly?

Everton v Newcastle: Toffees to Take a Point Which Guarantees them European Football Next Season?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

This match will decide whether the Toffees campaign ends in success or failure as 5th spot and a Uefa Cup place hangs in the balance. Despite looking set to compete with local neighbours Liverpool for a Champions League spot for much of the season Everton’s form has dropped since mid-March and a defeat in this match and a Villa win would see them miss out on Europe altogether. They face a revitalised Newcastle side this weekend whose confidence may have dipped slightly following their home defeat to Chelsea ending a 7-match unbeaten run.

Arsenal v Everton: Everton’s European Finish Gunned Down in Flames?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I by no means wish to sound patronising but I’m starting to really feel for Everton. For a long stretch of the season, they were strong contenders for fourth; now it’s possible they won’t even get fifth and that I feel would be a strong injustice.

Everton v Aston Villa: Villa Finally Prove Size Doesn’t Matter?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

There may only be a few games left to the Premiership season but there are still some highly crucial matches yet to be played. This one definitely falls into the ’six pointer’ category. Once in the tightest of tussles for fourth place, Everton now find themselves on the verge of losing fifth.

Toffees Come Unstuck: Where Did Everton’s Season Go off the Rails?

Friday, April 18th, 2008

In the last few weeks the wheels have well and truly come off Everton’s exciting season. A string of poor results has left them trailing in their Merseyside rivals wake. The home defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night even saw the players booed from the pitch by the Goodison Park faithful. Whilst Champions League football was the club’s target a few weeks ago, the loss of momentum could see David Moyes’ team end the season without even Uefa Cup qualification to show for their exploits.

Birmingham v Everton: Toffees to Take the Points to Keep their Champions League Dreams Alive?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This is a huge match on your Premier 10 fixture list this week with Birmingham fighting for survival and Everton fighting for not only the last Champions League spot but also to stay in 5th spot as Portsmouth are beginning to bite at their heels. Neither side is in top form and could be missing key players, however, history points towards backing the away side in this one.
