Wigan v Middlesbrough: Latics Lay Down Another Marker?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Steve Bruce’s in form Wigan entertain a faltering Boro side this weekend still receiving the plaudits for beating Man City in their last outing. The Latics have emerged as a strong outfit this season building on an excellent finish to the 2007/08 campaign with on-loan striker Amr Zaki in sensational form.

Liverpool Legend Alan Hansen: Wigan Star Amr Zaki - ‘the Find of the Season’

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Football Pools Pundit Alan Hansen has praised the performances of Wigan’s on-loan Egyptian striker Amr Zaki this week after his sensational performance against mega-rich Manchester City last weekend. The former Liverpool star had this to say, “I must say I was very impressed with Wigan at the weekend and in particular Amr Zaki. The Egyptian has got to go down as the find of the season.”

Tony Cascarino’s Column: Views on Arsenal, Hull, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle, Wigan, Aston Villa & West Ham

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

This weekend we saw what can happen if your transfer policy works for you with Hull’s win at the Emirates. Tigers manager Phil Brown was very brave in his selection at Arsenal playing both Marlon King and Daniel Cousin up front rather than doing what most sides do and flood the midfield away at the Emirates. This brave approach paid off big time.

Wigan a Serious Threat to Big Four says Former Chelsea & Aston Villa Star

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Steve Bruce’s Wigan side put on another strong display at the weekend with a 2-1 victory of mega rich Manchester City. However, Latics fans wouldn’t have been too surprised as they have been performing well all season. Former Chelsea star and Football Pools Pundit Tony Cascarino goes as far as to put them as one of the serious contenders to break into the top four.”I would go as far as to say that they (Wigan) of anyone in the Premier League can break into the top four if they get it right”.

Alan Hansen’s Column: Thoughts on Liverpool, Hull, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, Wigan, Newcastle & Chelsea

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I would like to start by congratulating Hull on an incredible result at the Emirates on Saturday. I thought the Tigers were absolutely magnificent on the day to become only the 2nd team to beat Arsenal at their fabulous stadium.Hull’s equalising strike must be a contender for goal of the season and it sums up Phil Brown’s side’s great start to the season. Usually for the promoted sides their home form is key to survival but 7 points from 9 available on the road is remarkable. They have shown they are a well organised outfit with quality going forward so Phil Brown and the Hull fans must be absolutely delighted with their start.

Wigan v Manchester City: Latics Hold City’s Samba Stars at the JJB?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Moneybags Manchester City make the short trip to Wigan this weekend hoping to end a poor run of form against the Latics. City will be fresh and full of confidence from hammering 6 past Portsmouth last weekend and will be hoping their Samba stars can end their Wigan jinx. However, the Latics are slowly proving themselves to be one of the dark horses of the division, a far cry from last season’s relegation worries.

Tony Cascarino’s Column: Thoughts on Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester United, Spurs, Newcastle, Wigan & Liverpool

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Yet again last weekend Chelsea showed they are a very good side. In fact, I would go as far as to say they are the best in the Premier League right now. They began the season by handing out a tonking to Portsmouth before indifferent performances against Wigan and Spurs but they absolutely blew Manchester City apart on Saturday.

Wigan v Sunderland: Bruce Bags the Points Against Black Cats?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Wigan turned in a superb display at newly promoted Hull last time out and will be looking to build on that result against a Sunderland side that were surprisingly humbled 3-0 at home to Manchester City. A lot depends on who scores the first goal in this match as the last 6 meetings between these two have been won by the team that opens the scoring.

Tony Cascarino’s Column: Views on Wigan, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, West Ham & Newcastle

For me, too much has been written about how great Manchester City’s record £32.5m Brazilian signing is. People would think Robinho was Ronaldinho the way he has been hyped up in the past week but in my opinion he is well overrated. I don’t remember him being a huge hit at Real Madrid though he did have his moments. In fact, the lad was a substitute for long periods in Spain so I wouldn’t expect too much of him.
