The Premier League is back.  Swansea avoided defeat in their final five games last season and could pick up a point in Southampton.  West Brom may also have to settle for a draw when they host a Bournemouth side they’ve struggled against in the past.

7 - Southampton v Swansea

When they met in the Premier League last season Southampton won 1-0 at home before Swansea had a 2-1 win on their own patch.

Southampton’s final warm-up game was a 2-0 victory at home against Spanish side Sevilla.  They lost just one of their five pre-season friendlies.

Swansea lost just one of their six pre-season friendlies and beat Italian side Sampdoria 4-0 in the latest.

8 - West Brom v Bournemouth

West Brom have won just one of their last five encounters with Bournemouth, they’ve drawn one and lost three.  The victory was a 2-1 win for the Baggies at the Hawthorns back in February.

West Brom have failed to win their last four pre-season friendlies, most recently losing 2-0 visiting Deportivo La Coruna last Saturday.

Bournemouth have followed a 2-2 draw hosting Napoli last weekend with a 2-0 loss against Combined Counties Premier Division team Knaphill FC on Tuesday.

9 - Barnsley v Ipswich

Five of the last six league encounters between Barnsley and Ipswich have ended in draws. Four games finished 1-1 and one finished 2-2.

Barnsley scored in the 95th minute to beat Morecambe 4-3 in their League Cup match on Tuesday.

Ipswich followed their 1-0 win over Birmingham in the Championship with a 2-0 victory visiting Luton in the League Cup.

16 - Middlesbrough v Sheff Utd

The last time they met was in the Championship in the 2010-2011 season, Middlesbrough won 1-0 at home and 2-1 away.

Middlesbrough are unbeaten in their last three home games but lost their opening league game 1-0 to Wolves.

Sheffield Utd are unbeaten in twenty-four matches, winning the last fourteen in a row.  They had a 1-0 win hosting Brentford in their opening league game last weekend.

19 - Reading v Fulham

Championship clashes between these two last season finished in a 5-0 home win for Fulham and a 1-0 home win for Reading.  They had a 1-1 draw in the play-off semi-finals before Reading won the second leg 1-0.

Reading were beaten 2-0 in their league match with QPR last weekend but won 2-0 hosting Gillingham in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Fulham followed their 1-1 draw with Norwich last weekend with a 2-0 win at Wycombe in the League Cup mid-week.

21 - AFC Wimbledon v Shrewsbury

Three of their last six league encounters have ended in draws, including this fixture last season which finished 1-1 before Shrewsbury had a 2-1 home win in the reverse.

AFC Wimbledon started their league campaign with a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe, but lost 3-1 in extra time playing host to Brentford in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Shrewsbury kicked things off in League One with a 1-0 win hosting Northampton, before losing their mid-week League Cup game 2-1 at Nottingham Forest.

27 - Oxford United v Portsmouth

Three of their last six league encounters have ended in draws. The last time Oxford hosted was in September 2015 and it finished 1-1.

Oxford had a 2-0 win over Oldham in their opening League One game, before narrowly losing 4-3 in extra time hosting Cheltenham in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Portsmouth had a 2-0 victory over Rochdale last weekend, but lost 2-1 in extra time visiting Cardiff in the League Cup.

Five of their last eight league encounters have ended in draws. Last season this fixture finished 2-2 before Cambridge had a 3-0 win on the road.

Cambridge were beaten 1-0 visiting Exeter last weekend and lost 4-1 visiting Bristol Rovers in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Carlisle were beaten 2-1 hosting Swindon in their opening League Two match, but won 2-1 in extra time visiting Fleetwood in the League Cup mid-week.

Exeter had a 1-0 win over Cambridge in their first league game of the season, but lost 2-1 to Charlton in the League Cup competition.

Dundee have won their last four on the road, most recently beating Cowdenbeath 3-0 in the Scottish League Cup.
