Arsenal look to move into the top-four when they host Sunderland for their mid-week fixture and there is still all to play for when Reading and Fulham meet for the second-leg of their play-off semi-final.
1 – Rosenborg V Tromso
They are just eight games into the season but Rosenborg have put themselves five points clear at the top of Norway’s Eliteserien league, unbeaten after six wins and two draws. They’ve leaked just three goals so far and look like they’ll continue their good form as opponents Tromso have failed to win their last five, losing three and drawing their last two. Rosenborg also have the better of the head to head with Tromso, winning seven of their last twelve meetings and drawing three. Rosenborg home win.
2 – Arsenal V Sunderland
To have any chance of a top-four finish Arsenal must take maximum points from their remaining games and this home clash against Sunderland provides a great opportunity. The Gunners resurgence culminated with a 4-1 thrashing of Stoke at the weekend and their last three league games at the Emirates has seen them beat West Ham, Leicester and Manchester United while keeping a clean sheet. Relegated Sunderland have nothing to play for and though their 2-0 win over Hull a fortnight ago ended their barren run, a 2-0 defeat at now safe Swansea at the weekend saw them booed off the pitch come the final whistle. Arsenal home win.
3 – Motherwell V Kilmarnock
Motherwell managed two wins of 2-1 in their visits to Kilmarnock this season but could only draw 0-0 when they played host in December. Their home form has been their downfall, they’ve won just one of their last eleven league games on home turf. Kilmarnock have been better on road recently, their only loss in their last eight league away matches was against Celtic last month. They’ve had just one win in their last eight clashes with Motherwell but they can get at least a point in this visit. Draw or Kilmarnock away win.
4 – Ross County V Hamilton
Ross County are now on six league games unbeaten consisting of three wins and three draws, which includes a 4-0 win over Inverness in their last home match and a 2-2 draw with Celtic in the previous. They were unable to beat Hamilton in their three previous league meetings this season, losing 1-0 and drawing two games 1-1. They can make amends in this encounter as Hamilton have lost their last three league games and scored just once while doing so. Ross County home win.
5 – Reading V Fulham
The winner will face either Sheffield Wednesday or Huddersfield at Wembley in the play-off final and after a 1-1 draw in the first-leg there is still all to play for. Reading put in a defensive performance to earn themselves the stalemate at Craven Cottage. On their home turf they’ve been a daunting prospect this season, losing just two of their twenty-three league matches in front of the home fans. However, Fulham have been an aggressive and free scoring team this season which earned them their 6th place finish, five points off Reading. They’ve also been formidable on the road losing just five of their twenty-three league away matches and they beat Norwich, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday in their last three trips out. This could be all square at 90 minutes. Draw.
6 – Man City V West Brom
A win here for Man City and in their final game against Watford will guarantee them a top-four finish. They won 2-1 at home at the weekend against Leicester, who were unlucky to have a penalty disallowed, but the victory makes it eleven league games unbeaten at home for Pep Guardiola’s team. West Brom made Chelsea work for their title win on Friday, but the 1-0 defeat makes it seven league games without a win for the Baggies. They are holding on to 8th place on the slimmest of margins and a lack of goals and points means they are in danger of dropping down a few positions. They’ve scored in just one of their last seven matches and haven’t won on the road since New Year’s Eve. Manchester City home win.
