Soccer 6: Pool 3 - July 12th

Check out our write ups for tonight’s six fixtures before taking a shot at winning some cash

Matches from the Brazilian Serie A feature in Wednesday’s Soccer 6 Pool 3 coupon and Ponte Preta will be hopeful of breaking their curse against Bahia, while a rampant Corinthians look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

1 – Atletico Miniero V Santos

Atletico Miniero are without a win in their last two matches both of which were away from home.  The latest was a 1-1 draw at Botafogo on Monday, where the hosts stole a point at the death by drawing 1-1 in the 93rd minute.  Miniero have fared much better at home, losing just one of their last seven on home turf across all competitions.  Santos have performed well in the Brazilian Serie A this season and are currently 4th.  But they’ve struggled on the road recently, winning just three of their last eight away games and two of them came against Atletico PR.  Santos have also failed to win in their last ten visits to Miniero, their last victory there was in 2007.  Atletico Miniero home win.

2 – Ponte Preta V Bahia

Ponte Preta have failed to beat Bahia in their last eight meetings, losing four and drawing four.  They could be about to buck the trend in this match as they’ve been pretty solid at home in the league this season, winning four of their five matches and leaking just four goals.  After drawing 1-1 with Fluminense last weekend, Bahia come into this match winless in seven games.  They’ve yet to record an away win in the league this season and that looks unlikely to change in this encounter.  Ponte Preta home win.

3 – Fluminense V Botafogo

Fluminense picked up three wins from their first four league games of the season but it’s been pretty much downhill from there.  A 1-1 draw with Bahia last weekend was their third stalemate in a row and they’ve took full points just once in their last eight.  Fortunately for them Botafogo have been poor on the road, their only away win came against a struggling Chapecoense side last month.  Head to head they’ve two wins each in their last four encounters and we’d go with the home team this time.  Fluminense home win.

4 – Atletico PR V Cruzeiro

After four straight league victories last month, Atletico PR have cooled down and are winless in their last two.  They scored within the first three minutes but couldn’t hold onto victory and drew 1-1 at Chapecoense last weekend, but they’ll be happy to be back on their home turf against a Cruzeiro side who’ve struggled for points on their travels.  The visitors have won just one of their six league away matches this season, but come into this match on the back of an impressive 3-1 victory over Palmeiras last Sunday.  Atletico PR home win or draw.

5 – Palmeiras V Corinthians

From the start of the season Corinthians have been running away with this league and are currently unbeaten in their twelve matches, with ten wins and two draws.  Their defence has been solid and only let slip five goals, but Palmeiras can boast a strong defence at home this term.  The hosts have leaked just one goal on their home soil this season and kept four clean sheets.  They have the better of the head to head, winning four of their last six meetings with Corinthians and losing one.  This could be a close one.  Draw.

6 – Vitoria V Vasco de Gama

A 2-1 win over Atletico GO last Saturday ended a three game winless run for Vitoria and edges them closer to safety, but they’re currently still within the drop zone at 17th.  Vasco finished 3rd in Serie B last season to earn themselves promotion to the top tier and are currently mid-pack in 10th, with five wins, a draw and six losses.  However, none of their victories came on their travels and they’ve netted just four of their eleven goals this term away from home.  Vitoria home win.
